Debra's Story
When I graduated high school I went to work for CDF (California Dept. of Forestry) now known as Cal-Fire as one of the first female firefighters in the State of California. I worked at Blasingame and Millerton fire stations. My second year I was off to the airport loading air tankers and helped build their 02A recon planes. Went into dispatch at CDF's Sanger HQ for a year and in 1977 married my husband of 32 years. While starting our family of three children I continued in college and graduated and am working for Caltrans as a construction Engineer. I live about 1-1/2 hrs. north of Sacramento near Chico Calif. Our son graduated college and also works for Cal-fire, is married...Expand for more
and we just celebrated our granddaughter's first birthday. One of my daughter's is getting married this summer and graduated with her undergrad degree at UCSD and her masters at USC and works as a marriage and family counselor at the YMCA in Oceanside near San Diego. My youngest daughter graduated with her fire-science degree and also works for Cal-Fire as a dispatcher in San Bernadino. My husband has recently retired from Cal-Fire and we own and operate a small ranch growing Almonds. I also produce wedding, sports and memorial videos on the side.
We find our lives full, all of us in good health and so blessed with our children and a new generation of family in our future.
