Debra's Story
Life
My Spouse
My boss introduced us. Invited us both over for lunch at he and his wife's house. It took me a month to accept the invitation. We've been married 13 years.
My Pets
We have two Labrador Retrievers. A yellow & a black. Buster & Sassi. They are father & daughter. Very spoiled. Yes, they even stay in the house with us. They're family.
My Kids
I have two step-children - Michelle & Chris. Couldn't ask for better step-children. They're a highlight in our lives. On July 1, 2003, a new addition came to our family. We have a beautiful grand-daughter. Her name is Camille Rey Martin.
My Job
I changed jobs in April, 2005. Contracted with the Kansas Army National Guard USPFO Warehouse. It is a good change. Great hours! Work with a good bunch. I process turn-in of equipment & clothes for the whole State. I also am State Administrator for CCDF (Central Clothing Distribution Facility). Very happy I made the change.
Workplace
Right out of high school I worked for Combine Insurance as bookkeeper.
Two years later I went to work for the Shawnee County Sheriff's Dept. I began as Recept...Expand for more
ionist, then to Detective Administrative Secretary, became a Sheriff's Deputy, and ended with Sheriff's Administrative Secretary. To be truthful I did not want to get involved with some activities the Sheriff was into so I turned in my resignation and took a summer off to take care of my step-children. The Sheriff was later ousted from office.
After 12 1/2 years at the Sheriff's Office, I went to work for Polo Plastics as an Administrative Secretary. Polo Plastics design soft cases for companies using plastics, vinyls, leather, etc. It was an interesting job. Did not have the benefits I wanted.
In 1996, I started working for Kaw Valley Electric and am still here today. I work in the Line Department as Operations Assistant. We supply power to over 7000 customers in 6 different counties. I work with customers on new construction, electrical problems, tree trimming, security light installs & repairs, schedule, organize, initiate and complete service orders. I also manage our Call Center, which consists of 4 part-time employees. I'm on-call 24/7. I'm looking forward to an early retirement in 15 years.
