Debra's Story
Growing up with my dad, we did a lot of dirt bike riding, especially at Hollister Hills and Clear Creek. I rode competitively during my high school years.
In my early years, my parents also owned a sailboat. We sailed out of Redwood City to the San Francisco Bay, and sometimes out the Golden Gate.
I started massage therapy school in 1987 - a healing place to be after the loss of my mom. I received the National Certification in Massage Therapy., & was licensed (LMT) in the state of Arizona. Also got the Chiropractic Assistant certification from the AZ Board of Chiropractors, so I could be authorized to do my personal training at the chiropractic clinic.
I taught massage & anatomy at Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts for 12 years, until 2008, and at UC Santa Cruz for 10 years. Fortunate that my 35 year career in bodywork has been so congruent with my active lifestyle.
Rock collecting is also something I enjoy. Joined a FB group called Rockhounders to help me identify them. Fun group - very informative. Found some cool specimens in the high mountains of Arizona!

14 I left my home & job in Arizona to live with my dad in San Jose, so he could age in place. I was his caregiver for 3 years, with the help of hospice.
I've done a LOT of genealogy and found much of our family's deep roots within the Cherokee/Choctaw history of the U.S.. Also traced family back to Lancashire/England, Wales, Germany, Scotland, & the Basque region at northern Spain.
My maternal grandmother’s indigenous American ancestors are Eastern Cherokee (1500's-Current)... My dad’s mom’s mother’s indigenous American ancestors are also eastern Cherokee, and Chocktaw. My 6th great grandfather on her side was chief Broom of the Eastern Cherokee tribe, in South Carolina (1700’s). My 5th great grandmother, Chief Broom’s daughter, Nan-Ye-Hi was in the wolf clan… As was my 4th great grandmother, Sara Hicks. I am excited to find indigenous members of our family dating back to the 1500’s.
Best to everyone!
