Del's Story
Life
I am married and have nine wonderful kids. For about eleven years I worked as a Physical Therapist Asst and decided to go in to special education. My BS in Early Childhood Education with an elementary minor is from Madonna University and my Masters in Special Education is from Eastern. I am a teacher for children birth to three years old who have special needs and recently finished taking classes for an Autism endorsement on my teaching certificate.
After searching for my birth family for 25 years I found a sister who is 5 years younger than me (partially with the help of the Classmates site) We have been getting along great. I have been building wonderful relationships with my family I never knew. God is good.
College
In the early 80's I attended Macomb and was in the Physical Therapist Assistant program. Later, I went...Expand for more
to Madonna University and changed my focus to Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. After graduating from Madonna I attended Eastern Michigan University and completed my Masters in Special Education with a focus on Cognitive Impairment. In 2007 I completed coursework through Eastern, Oakland, Central, and Wayne State in Autism through Michigan Virtual University.
Workplace
In the early 1980's I worked as a Physical Therapist Asst at several hospitals and clinics in Detroit, Oakland County, and Macomb County. For a short time I worked at a psychiatric hospital, but soon went back to Physical Therapy.
My first Teaching position was with Head Start in the River Rouge/Ecorse area. My current position is Teacher Consultant in Early Intervention and I work in the Downriver area. I provide services in my student's homes.
