Delores 's Story
Life:
I was born and raised in Elgin. Never had the guts to leave but always wanted to. I've raised two very responsible young men. How? Well... just making sure they knew of my mistakes so they wouldn't repeat them.
Marcus played basketball at Indiana State University where he started all 4 years. He was married in the Bahamas in May of 2007. He and Jacki have given me no grandkids yet. Quintin played basketball at Waubonsee Junior College and one year at Millikin University then decided he just didn't love it anymore. What a shock to Jeff and my systems. He is working for his father and is Vice President General Manager in charge of the shop. Qunitin and his wife Michelle have purchased a home just west of Elgin.
I've been married to Jeff since 1980 and we have truly lived our vows...good times and bad, sickness,health,richer,poorer... wow,it's definitely not the fairy tale they led me to believe. But life is good. I wish I could retire right now but of course that is not possible. I no longer work for U46 as a teacher's assistant in Early Childhood. I am the Accounts Manager for Howard Sportswear. Jeff started Howard Sportswear Graphics Express, Inc. in 2002. We worked out of our house and garage for 6 months until we were able to move into their own shop. Things are going great. We have expanded again. We started in 1 unit and the next year we moved into the 2nd unit. By the 3rd year we had grown into the 3rd unit. Now we have 7 units total. The next move would be to buy our own building. We feel truly blessed.
School
The good old days of open campus. Sophomore year - Prince Castle french fries and sitting out on the front steps. Junior year - playing cards in the commons instead of going to class. Senior year - suffering the consequences of not making cheerleading. The good old days - yep.
College
I left Elgin High School and continued on to Elgin Community College. Those 2 years definitely seem a blur but the best thing to happen was meeting my husband, Jeff. He is a graduate of St. Charles ...Expand for more
High School. I left ECC and went on to Western Illinois University where it took me an additional 3 1/2 years and still no degree. I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends. Those memories are not as blurry.I kick myself when I remember that I only need 2.66 credit hours to graduate.
Jeff went on to Loras College in Dubuque,IA. Playing basketball and enjoying my cheering whenever I could make it up there.
Workplace:
After I left college I jumped from telephone sales rep to CNA at a nursing home until I landed a job at La Petite Academy. I worked as a preschool teacher in the 2 year old classroom. that was in October 1979. My last day was December 31, 1981, before the birth of my first child. I stayed home until August 1985 when my second child was almost 1 1/2 years old. I entered School District U46 as a Teacher's Assistant in an Intermediate Behavior Disorder class. In 1991 I went to work for Elgin Mental Health Center as a Mental Health Technician, all the time hoping to go back to school on the states money. But working midnight shift did nothing but make me crazy and tired, so still no degree. I left in 1995 when I had trouble getting on the day shift and my health started to decline. Then it was back to U46 but this time in the Early Childhood Program. Now I work full time for my husband's company ,Howard Sportswear Graphics Express Inc., that we started in 2002. It seems that as I get older I am working more. Am I going in the wrong direction?
