Dena's Story
Dena (Freeman) Stewart has had many careers,
committed to each, for some, several years.
New York Teacher, Editor, Corporate Exec.
Although she advanced, pressure made her a wreck.
In each endeavor, fulfillment was fleeting.
She wanted a challenge that wasn’t defeating.
Asked, “In what profession would you be content
knowing, most days, that your time was well spent?”
Answer, “To be a painter as my occupation.
To use art for engagement and education.”
As a visionary artist, the genre Dena chose,
her work appeared in galleries, art fairs, and museum shows.
One painting went to UNICEF. Her card was a best-seller.
Dubbed “goodwill ambassador,” this designation, stellar.
In 1987, when New York was gray and cold,
Dena, and spouse Stewart, moved to South Beach. That was bold.

They founded a nonprofit to lead group interaction.
They produced a “model” program to address calamities,
said the President’s Committee on the Arts & Humanities.
A City High Commission used its power in bestowing
the honor of naming Dena Stewart, “A Woman Worth Knowing.”
Dena joined with Stewart for an online video show.
“Alive on South Beach®™” swells her depths, as newer ventures grow.
She heads art workshops, edits film, does art, and also writes.
Dena penned her memoir that revealed her childhood plights.
For Dena Stewart, obstacles force her to reach and rise.
