Dena's Story

After I graduated from LPHS, I went to Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee with a music scholarship. While there I met my husband, Tom Young and we were married in 1970, I taught for a year in the Nashville, Tennessee, schools and played in the Nashville Symphony and then went back to APSU to get my masters degree with the aid of assistantship and finished in 1971. My husband and I taught in the Fulton County schools in Atlanta, Georgia for two years and then we moved back to Tennessee where he was employed by the Boys Scouts of America in Franklin, TN. I taught Head Start for three years and we started our family. We have two daug...Expand for more
hters, Jenny and Christy, and I stayed home to take care of them and taught violin lessons part time. When the girls became teenagers, I worked for First Tennessee Bank for five years. We have lived in Murfreesboro since 1997 except for four years when we lived in Austin, Texas. Tom passed away unexpectedly in 2004, so I returned to Murfreesboro, and since that time I have been studying French at Middle Tennessee State University. I spent last semester in Caen, France and will finish my degree this year. Both of my daughters are married and I have two beautiful grandsons. I love to read, sew, go to the theater and am discovering life as a single person again.
