Deniece's Story

My husband of 43 years, Ed, and I lived in Orange County for 25 years. We met in Bakersfield at a meeting to form a ski club for singles. It was called Avalanche Ski Club at that time but has since changed the name. Needless to say I never participated in the Avalanche activities as I was no longer single. We have a combined family of 8 children all of whom lived with us at one time or another. We have 10 grandchildren and 3 great grands so far. In addition to running our own businesses, we continued volunteering in the Far West Ski Association and US Ski Association for several years and later formed the US Recreational Ski Association (USRSA). USRSA was a national membership organization offering discounts at ski areas, shops and lodgings to enable skiers to afford to ski more. We also organized and ran nationwide races with sponsors such as Chrysler, Skiing Magazine & Mitsubishi for over 10 years. Other programs we developed were "USRSA National Ski Week" which had attendance ranging from 800 to 1500 participants, and "USRSA World Ski Party...Expand for more
" a group that we took for a week of skiing & up to a week of sightseeing. I was the organizer for these events and had a great time doing it. We got to ski most of the major ski areas in the US, Europe, Japan & New Zealand. Ed and I have also traveled to over 75 countries and territories in Europe, Central & South America, Africa and Asia. We retired in 1996 and moved to Springville. It is beautiful here and we can't imagine living in a town or city again. My step-mom, Max, lives with us along with 8 dogs (all pound or found), 4 cats and an African grey parrot. We used to have 6 donkeys, a horse, 3 goats, 6 emus, 2 swans and other waterfowl or rather they had us. Found new homes for them 3 years ago when we downsized from 20 acres to 5. We now know that there is just as much upkeep on 5 acres as 20 but it's very private & quiet. My hobbies are quilting and pulling weeds. We don't travel much now as it is difficult to find someone to house sit all of our pets. We are thankful we were able to do so much while we were still able to get off the bus!

How I've spent my summer! Laying a basket weave used brick patio! Who knew?
Saw this on internet yesterday & happened to have a red colander so made a new shade for my kitchen light.
Know everyone is on the edge of their seats to hear what I've been up to this summer. Attached is a picture of a redo of an existing patio in the front of our house.

Won't bore you with pics of the wonderful progress I've
