Joyce's Story

I went to Linn Benton Community College for 2 years and received my AA in Data Processing (computer programming). Got married to a wonderful man that loves the Lord and was in my Data Processing class. We moved to Portland were he got a job. I then got a job working at Freightliner Corporation (the company that builds Semi-trucks). I worked there as a computer programmer and then advanced up to Systems Analyst. I started in April 1980 and was there until January 2006. They decided I was no longer useful to them and they fired me. They never gave me a reason. I'll fill in a little of what ELSE went on during those 25 years. Tom and I attended East Hill church for about a year I think, then a neighbor told us of a closer church and we started attending Open Bible Church. Tom had a son by a previous marriage and he was living with his mother. Tom's ex-wife died after we had been married for 3 years and at that time, Nick, Tom's son, came to live with us (at 8 years old). The youth pastor from Open Bible Church was feeling called to start a church and we felt called to go with him. In 1987 five families from Open Bible started Tuality Valley Church in Wilsonville. For 14 years approximately 50 of us met in the grade school in Wilsonville. In 2001, we felt the Lord was calling us in a different direction, as well as a few other families in TVC. So, in the late summer the pastor called a Sunday for remembrance and we remembered the wonderful things the Lord had done over the past 14 years and then the families feeling called to move on were released. That very Sunday, as we were driving to our last meeting at TVC, at the end of the street we live on, we saw a sign...'Destiny Christian Fellowship' with an arrow pointing back the way we had come. "Huh? I didn't see any new building. Maybe God is trying to tell us something." We had a little trouble finding the place (signs were put out later than we were looking), but we discovered Destiny Christian Fellowship was meeting in a grade school (does this sound familiar?) two blocks from our house. The church is an offshoot from City Bible, pastored by Joel Hjertstedt, and had just began the Sunday we saw the sign. We have been with them since September 2001. I was pretty burned out from the stress at Freightliner, so since my husband's job paid him quite well, I decided to change careers. I took 6 months to unwind and some training in voiceover intending to get into narrating audio books. I was also doing volunteer work for the church; taking people unable to drive to doctor appointments and other errands. Well, the volunteer work was taking up a lot of time and it won out over the voiceover. In 2004...well even before that, we had been having various people live with us in our house after we moved from West Linn to Gladstone in 1990. If you are interested, ask me to tell you the story about the Asher Rock Inn. As I was saying, in 2004, we asked an elderly lady in our church if she would like to come live with us. She accepted and stayed with us until just this last week (June 2011). She had a car accident around 2006 and totale...Expand for more
d her car. So, she was the recipient of a major portion of my chauffeuring. Tom and I never had any children of our own, but raised Nick after he came to live with us. Nick grew up, went to college for 3 years, then decided to become a police officer. He then got married and had three sons; Caden, Asher, and Dash. They are currently living in Beaverton. Now, for the meat of it all. I'm totally amazed at what the Lord has been doing in me this past 2 years (2010 - 2011). It started with DCF getting connected with Bethel Church in Redding, CA. We started a new book in the Ladies Bible Study, Secrets of the Secret Place and we started teaching the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry curriculum at DCF on Wednesday nights, and pastor had invited my husband and I to start attending the Leadership training class...all at the same time. It was like I had a fire hose pointed at my brain. I was getting SO much good teaching; it was amazing. So, about 7 months go by and I'm seeking God for more (like I wasn't getting enough already). I was a good Christian, I prayed (some...), read my Bible, went to church, worshiped God and did all the right stuff.... But, in my heart I knew there was an intimacy lacking...and I didn't know how to get it. And for years I had been praying, 'Lord, I want a deeper relationship with You, but I don't know how. Show me how to do this.' And one day He whispered, 'Worship.' Well, I do worship. What am I not getting? And then a few weeks later, He says, 'Lean closer.' I'm going, 'OK.... So, what does that look like?' So, I get real with God and say, 'I know I hear Your voice, but I don't have a confidence in that, so in order to gain a confidence and 'lean closer', I'm going to sit down with paper and pencil and I'm going to ask You to give me a prophetic word for someone (something we had learned and been practicing in the Destiny School of Supernatural Ministry).' And that is what I did. I asked, and then I listened for Him to speak to me, and I would hear a few words and I would write them down and then say, 'Got that, Lord. What next?' And He would speak and I would write and we would keep going until He stopped talking. The end result of that was three-fold: 1) I gained confidence in hearing God's voice, 2) Another person was blessed by having God speak to them (through me), and 3) I grew in God amazingly. I kid you not, in 3 months time I was a totally different person. I used to be quiet and reserved...not any more, ask anyone in our church (that knew me before the transformation). Well, there's much more to the story...but you get the idea. Our church wasn't 'normal' before, but we were in a major Holy Ghost tornado last year, and now we have been ignited into explosion. Each week the anointing of the Lord is tangible. I get excited just talking about it. (Can you tell?) I better be quiet now. If this is too stretching for you, I apologize. I having been living with this transformation for 10 years (slow at first and exploding recently). Blessings to you. May God fill you up with His love and His joy. Go and look for His face.
