Denise's Story

Moved from northern Jersey to central Jersey circa 1980. Relocated to central upstate New York in September, 2003, to have fewer neighbors (more dairy cows than people), with room to run our dogs. We settled on a 90-acre farm with a 200-year-old, 12-room farmhouse (so you know repairs are constant). I keep the fields mowed so we can use the property for sighthound field trials and events. The Borzois, Greyhounds, and Salukis are gone, but we currently live with a couple of Whippets. We no longer compete with the dogs, but. Richard and I still travel to judge field trial events. Great places on the property for target shooting (no more archery--I lose too many arrows). My "ride" from spring until late fall is a Kubota tractor with a front-end loader and a Bush-hog, but the really fun stuff is taking one of the ATVs out for a spin--everyone should have a quad. Going around the block here is about 6 miles. Published my first non-fiction handbook (dog-related) in 1996, the next two reference books in 2004. At the end of 2010, my first erotic romance fiction novels were released under the pen name Sophia Roslyn, followed by books by Danica St. Como, under contract with various publ...Expand for more
ishing houses. The last book release was December, 2017. Currently working on the next novels. Traumatic Brain Injury caused by a motor vehicle accident in 2013 resulted in a cutback on my writing--now it takes much longer to finish a book,. My husband insists that I'm grounded--but the accident wasn't even my fault! Still married to Richard Whritenour. Three grown children, four grandkids. Now that the grandspawn are grown, they don't spend summers up here any longer. Life goes on! UPDATE: For the first time in forever I had the opportunity to wander through Butler, via Riverdale and Bloomingdale, When did the towns shrink?? I was sorry to see Nees Bakery gone, Surprised to see so many store-front restaurants, amazed at the number of new homes built in strange places (up behind Carey Ave and behind Butler Elementary). Wow! I didn't have the time to check out the Route 23/Kiel Ave/Kinnelon area, but I did drive around to check out houses I knew in Butler and B'dale. Such a different perspective. Who stayed -- or returned -- to Butler? There are two writing conferences a year at the Woodbridge site, so I'll try to allow more time on my next trip(s) to wander and take photos.
