Denise's Story

I have been fortunate to have lived a very interesting life.. I have been blessed with four wonderful children and one grandson~ I have traveled to many countries and got to live in Switzerland and drive the Autobahn!I actually went to the real Mattahorn mountain in the village of Zermatt~ I have had the extreme honor to have the Crowned Princess of Thailand at my home for a very personal visit and our pictures together, are in the Thai National Archives.. I have baked a 3 foot 3d "Starship Enterprise" Birthday cake for Leonard Nimoy and we shared a wonderful dinner together with he and his wife. He signed my daughter's Franklin Mint Starship Enterprise collectible~it made her so happy! I have a dear friend, as odd as this may sound in Mr.Henry Hill, for whom the movie Goodfella's depicts his life story. In his new journey in life after Witness Protection, he is an accomplished chef and we cooked together every week for almost 3 years. He has a book out called "Cooking On The Run" and even though in the first addition he spelled my name wrong, I am in the dedication and my recipe for Cannoli's are in his book!! I have had the pleasure in talking for hours with Sir Anthony Hopkins, not having a clue who in the world he was~and as embarrasing as that is! It was one of the most memorable conversations I have ever had.And what was really great is that he told me the same thing, he was so tickled I didn't know who the heck he was and he said it was one of the first "Real" conversations he had had in a very long time!! I got to meet Michael Buble' talk to the members of the band and of course a hug and an autograph!!!!! Absolutely a highlight of my life!!....LOL :) In my much younger years, as a Cadet in the Civil Air Patrol, I was rescued by Hubert Humphrey in the lower levels of the White House having lost my fellow cadets somehow and Mr. Humphrey took me to the Senate Cafeteria where I was able to Meet Senator Ted Kennedy. We had lunch together and when it was time to go, he shook my hand and said remember to tell your parents to vote for me!. He wore Canoe cologne and it was on my hand~I didn't wash my hand for days!! So young and vulnerable then!!!! I did get to write a little tribute for him and received a very nice letter back from the Kennedy Family just this past week.At 18 I was honored to be the first and youngest, female Liason (as I worked in the second largest Security firm in the New England area)to the Boston Police Department and was accepted as the youngest member of the American Association of Police Officers",, By age 25, I had earned my recognition in the American Association Of Female Entrepreneurs.. In 2001 I had the pleasure to get to know Rain Pryor quite well ~ to see how far she has come is really inspiring for me. I have relatives through marriage become huge success stories such as Rollie Stevens, voted the most up and coming country singer and most accomplished song writer. I got to befriend Mr Verne Langdon, whom you might not recognize the name, as we are all a little young to know some of his works but he is an accomplished writer, composer, singer but is most famous for his "masks" he is the designer and creator of such famous masks as those for the Planet of the Apes, and many of the old time Monster masks, he is the most positive person I have ever known! We would email a few times a week and never ever did he have but happy positive thoughts! He's busy on the road right now and I miss chatting with him but again I have been so fortunate to have shared so many experiences with him over the last 3 years! My children, are the most important people in my life, and I would like to say "thank you" to the father of my children whom I was married to for 17 years, for giving me three wonderful children and to my current husband of again 17 years (gotta be something in that number for me!!)for giving me one wonderful step son. We are separated at this time but,He has taken me on one heck of a journey through the years and we have shared some wonderful times. I have to say in all my travels~ in all my times, I have met many an aquaintence but rarely do you really find a true friend. I have been fortunate to truly have 9 great friends in my lifetime. My mother, my father, my husbands,my children(5) It's great to have special places in your hearts for people~ My grandson was born with a very rare disease~ Hypogammoglobulinanemeia Disorder~ which in english~ means he has very little immune system. At first they said he may never live, to maybe he will make it to four, I am so happy and grateful to say~ he will be 9 in a few short weeks and although he has endured so many major operations as the side effects of his disease, he can not be immunized nor attend school or be around many people at one time. His favorite show is GhostHunters & when they heard the cast and crew were headed to California, my daughter wrote to Barry Fitzgerald, he called them & spent a nite at home w/ Alan. A memory he will cherish, there is a photo of them in my album. Alan always has a smile on his face, is so happy go lucky!!He wants to be a neurosurgeon when he grows up! In all that he has endured the only thing he asks is Please don't cut my hair!! He had to have brain surgery last year, they had to cut a hole in his skull to allow the brain room, it was a serious situation and all he asked again is please don't cut my hair.. The team of physician's at Loma Linda University have bonded with Alan since birth, they have a true loving and respectful relationship with my little man (some of their photos with Alan are in my album)They respected his wishes and barely made a dent in his full head of locks, That to me was such a wonderful gesture.... Alan truly is my hero~ and my inspiration.. Life has had it's shares of ups and downs, had a few close calls in health issues, got misdiagnosed in '06,and was told I had less than six months to live,,Obviously I am here !! but it was an awful experience.. Well, I guess I could keep writing, but in looking at this it's like wooooo..Enough already!! To all my classmates of 70-74~ I hope your life journey has treated you well and you have found happiness in your lives.I know I will be most remembered by my nickname ~~(thank you all!! :) LOL... "Shorty" and for singing Leaving on a Jetplane.. with Michael Joseph and playing the guitar for the school show -Oh guys does that date us or what!!!...and for my life sized "Hawaiian Punch" character I made for the Freshman Dance.. I can't honestly say I got to know everyone in our class but I have some great memories of some of you, to name a few, Russel Clough, Fred Dipina, Lester Hall,Debbie Perkins(Miller)the late Pam Sanders ...Expand for more
and Tommy McGinness.. Blacknights and Hawaiian Punch dances,, seems like a million years ago.......... There are some teachers I will definately NEVER forget especially my French teacher, Mr. LaVelle. The first home after I was married, I built on Plain Drive.. My neighbor ended up being (DR) Mr Murray(School Superintendent) and his brother-in-law was Mr. Lavelle, (hope I am spelling his name correctly :( but in any event, I know you all remember him.. In class he would call me "ma petite chu" (my little cabbage head) and I will never forget~ one of the first days of moving in to the house, I am out on the deck and I hear "Ma petite chu" coming from across the yard,,that's when I found out who my neighbor was! It was like OMG I was back in school!! Fun stuff!!!!!! One last and very important thing this website has done something very wonderful for me, I was able to reconnect with my step brother Steve Bosse' whom I had lost contact with for many many years! Now we talk endlessly~ It has made this membership all worth while! So everyone..that's my story and I am sticking to it!!!! :) LOL .. Best of everything to everyone! Until we meet again~~ Denise PS... I guess I should end this with a laugh and describe probably one of THE stupidest moments of my life!! Hope you get a smile out of it..... I always considered myself more a city girl having lived in Boston so long, and in the years in Los Angeles. When my wonderful step son Justin was about 5 years old ~we lived in a beautiful home on the mountain side in southern California and he wanted to raise chickens!!~ Well City Ordinance had never had a call for whether chickens were allowed, so we went for it..First things first, chickens need a home,, We actualy hired a contractor to build a 500 sq foot minature version of our home,, I had it heated, air conditioned and tiled floor to celing with drainage systems so it could be cleaned out easily,,Installed a doggie door that led to an outside enclosed area.. Ok, nuts as that is,~~off we go to buy chickens! well where the heck do you buy live chickens in Los Angeles!!! We found a place and so I tell the people we want a momma and her babies.. well who knew they were just going to give me an older chicken and 2 chicks and say they were mommy and me's!!! We take them home, and get ready to place them in their new home, but Justin was so anxious, he opened the top of the box... WHO the heck knew that not only do chickens really fly but they are like hover craft they go straight up in the air!!! and keep going and going and going..!!!!! Right up a 40 foot tree that had these reversed cone like spikes growing out of it..Now what do I do??.... I have two baby chicks that need a mommy and mommy has gone AWOL up the tree... STUPIDEST MOMENT........CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO GET THE CHICKEN OUT OF THE TREE....YES I did do it!! "I'm a city girl" I told them I don't know the first thing about a chicken!! ~after they finished laughing at me, they said Lady, we don't even rescue cat's from tree's anymore.. Well I have to tell you,by the time I got through explaining about the babies and they need their mommy. The fire department came through!!! They actually sent a hook and ladder and 4 fire fighters!!! (IT MUST HAVE BEEN ONE HECK OF A SLOW DAY!!!) :) :)and after they tried "hosing" it out of the tree :( at enough pressure to blow the chicken to heaven and back~ she still stuck firm to the tree !! so then they went in adjoining neighbors yards and used dog balls, tennis balls, anything they could throw to get it too come down.. Nothing worked, it was beginning to get dark, so they told each of the neighbors ~~and I swear to you this is the honest truth~~ They told the neighbors should mamma chicken come down from the tree and go into their yards, they were to call the Fire Department immediately!! EVEN MORE STUPID????? I get a portable flood light and set it up so it shined into the tree and down to the chicken coop..Hoping the light would guide her home!!!~ I thought she would have maternal instincts or something~ and maybe she would have if the chicks had really been hers.. They took me at the chicken farm !!! Now I have these tiny little chicks~~ What was I going to do?? put them in 500 square feet alone!~ Well my husband told me "now Denise, chickens are not pets, they don't take to you that way." I said ya ya ya.. I had an extra guest room and bathroom with a heat lamp!~ I lined the bathtub in white newspaper and turned on the heat~named the chicks Peepers and Charlie (don't ask!!) but they were so soft and cute.. I was wearing a cowel neck sweater...I placed both chicks up under the neck of my sweater and they cuddled on my chest for hours!! ..so much for hubbies theory they don't become pets!~ I hadn't told him the chicks were in my sweater, and after a few hours, he did ask how they were doing~~ I put my finger up to my mouth to gesture a "shush" sign, and slowly lifted the cowel neck and showed him my sleepy new babies~~~Needless to say next morning mama had flown the coop so, I fed them, I bathed them ~I talked to them and loved them. They not only understood the words give me a kiss, they would walk up my arm come right to my face, I would turn and they would gently peck me on the lips!! ~~Well of course we went out and got more chickens for the coop we built~ 15 more to be exact!!(don't ask that's a whole different story but long part short, it was that~ or they were the owners dinner!!!) and now the coop was in full swing!!~ Did you know that you can tell what color eggs a chicken will lay by the color of the skin behind their ears??~ It's true! and we had golden eggs, green eggs, purple eggs,, it was amazing.. But Peepers and Charlie grew up and out grew living in the guest room and guest bath, I had to introduce them to the rest of the crew!! ~They did well and my chickens were spoiled rotten~~ I had them trained well, when it was time for sleep, ah yes, I installed a television! and stereo~ I know, I know you think I am crazy!.....:) but each one had their own perch and their own cubby and fresh hay on the floor each morning (yes I cleaned the coop every day and ugg they can be dirty birds!) I would tell them to all go to bed, again I swear this to be true~~ they would all settle in, I would dim the lights(yes I know what you are thinking!) and I would sing "Goodnight Sweethearts" to them every night. when I began to sing, not one peep did they make not even when I left,(Maybe I scared them to death every night LOL ) If it were not for seeing them, our neighbors would never have known there were 17 chickens living next door!!!! So hope you got a chuckle! Life can be crazy sometimes!!!
