Well, I accidentally posted part of this in the wrong place first. After skipping senior year, I attended Drew University and majored in Mathematics. I met my husband (Geoff Sobering) through a mutual friend the summer after my sophomore year. We were engaged within 4 months. After graduating from Drew, I lived with his parents while Geoff finished school. I taught at the local high school in Madison, NJ for 6 months. I applied for a graduate student internship with the government laboratory system. I landed a job with Argonne National Laboratories in Idaho Falls, ID. I worked there for 6 months in the Criticality Hazards Control Section. I was in charge of deciding and justifying transport approval of spent nuclear fuel rods. They wanted me to switch to nuclear engineering, but I didn't want to go there. I joined Geoff in Madison, WI to attend graduate school in Statistics. We got married in NJ in 1983. He eventually finished his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, sailing was more fun than the lab. When he got a job offer at the National Institutes of Health in Biomedical Engineering in the In Vivo NMR Research Center, we moved to MD. I got a job running the laboratory and we worked together there until Geoff got a position at GE Medical Systems in Waukesha, WI. So we returned to WI. We've been back for 21 years now. A few school and job changes later, Geoff works for a company which makes atom probes for research.
