Denise's Story
Life
What have I been doing these last 20-odd years? Married in 1984, divorced in 1994, remarried in 2004, two beautiful daughters (18 and 22), degree in Finance from CSUF, post-grad at Chapman. After working in the lending biz for 14 years, I am a high school teacher in Paso Robles, CA. I am having so much fun! It's way better than actually BEING in high school, but you still get all of those great vacations! I was the drill team/flag team/shield team advisor for a while, and am now the Activities Director. We're a big football school, just like Edison was, so that's fun. Life on the Central Coast is great, except it gets a little hot in the summer (like 114). In September of '04 I married a wonderful man who is too special for words. My life is so great! I hope yours is too.
Workplace
After working as a secretary for 12 years (at the Newport Chamber of Commerce, UC Irvine and Citicorp), I managed a small software company for a while. After finishing my BA at Ful...Expand for more
lerton, I went back to Citicorp as a credit analyst, in their computer division. After a while, I had the opportunity to work in their new oil company lending division, analyzing deals to gas station owners and acting as a liaison between Citicorp and Mobil marketing people. It was fun, and really busy! After doing that for a few years, I went to a new company to do oil deals for them. That, too, was fun, but took too much time away from my daughters. After a stint with Washington Mutual in Paso Robles, I became a high school teacher, which is where I plan to stay! I'm the chairperson of the Business Department, and I also have worked with learning-deficient students, helping to bring them closer to grade-level reading and writing abilities. Extremely fun, challenging, and rewarding. The money's not great, but I have all summer off with my kids and my new husband, along with 2 weeks at Christmas and 2 weeks in the Spring (hooray for Spring Break!). Work CAN be fun!
