Dennis's Story

Dennis Brown (Class of 1964) History: After Graduation, I went to work at the Huntington National Bank across the street from the State House at Broad and High streets. I worked there a little over a year at which time I was, like many of us, drafted into military service. So that I would have some say over my future, I enlisted in the Navy. After Boot Camp, I went to school and was trained to be an Aviation Electronics Technician. In 1966, I was sent to a Navy Test and Evaluation facility in Maryland were I remained until the end of my Navy service in late 1969. I've remained in Maryland, living just outside of Washington, D.C., ever since. After many years of attending night school and working for several different defense contractors, I received my B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Maryland. Later, I worked for the U.S. Government (Department of the Navy) in Washington D.C. as a Project Manager for several Navy Radar Programs. I retired from the Government in 2011 and now work part time out of my home as a Ra...Expand for more
dar Engineering Consultant to the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, I met my one and only wife, a Maryland girl, "Martie" Norris Brown. We have one daughter and two adult grandchildren. Both of my parents are gone now, but I still have a sister, Sandra ("Sandy") Brown Bolen, who lives in Columbus with her husband Thomas Bolen and their son Shawn. Both Sandy and Tom graduated from South High (Class of 59), where Tom was an outstanding athlete lettering in almost everything. Hobbies and Interests: Hot Rods (1940 Ford Coupe) and Auto Restoration, Amateur Astronomy, and Exercise/Fitness. For a number of years I maintained a Cabin Cruiser and was very much into boating on the Chesapeake Bay. That interest may resurface. Motto: "Have Fun!" I didn't use this motto years ago, but people who know me today often hear me say it. Final Thought: Although I now have lived most of my life in Maryland and have not been very good at keeping in touch ... in my heart and mind I am, and will always be ... a Son of the South Side of Columbus.
