Dennis's Story
Life
Right after graduating mid-term in 1967 I enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and they sent me to Alaska for a year and a half. Returning to Long Beach, CA for my last duty station I married Nancy Butler my Rowland High School sweetheart. When I was discharged from the military I entered Bible School at Azusa Pacific and studied there for two years. I transferred to Warner Pacific College in Portland, OR, where I graduating in 1975. I entered full time ministry in the Church of God being ordained in 1980. In 1991 I graduated from Anderson Theological School (seminary) and continued to serve in the church as a Pastor. Currently I serve a small church in Clinton Township, MI (Detroit area) and work full-time as a hospice chaplain for The Beaumont Hospital System. I am also doing Clinical Pastoral Education studying to become an Association of Clinical Pastoral Educator. I want to teach others how to be good hospital chaplains. serving the church. I am also a National Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. Want to talk? Drop me a line. I'm check my web address daily. Who ever thought I'd do all of this? Not me, that's for sure! Life is full of surprises.
Life is full of surprises. I applied for a management job at the hospice I work for and to my surprise I was the one selected out of 5 candidates. It seems that my total life experience has taylor made me the one truly qualified for this job. I am the Manager of Volunteers for Hospice. That means I will oversee 135 volunteers, be responsible for the daily operation of the Volunteer Dept. and suprvise two full-time employees. It also means I have a private office with a view (of the parking lot), however humble and I won't have to share a cubicle with two other people anymore. I also join the management team and can now have input on the decisions of the company. Of course, I continue with my church. That doesn't change. I'm excited.
