He sold his first exhibited painting at age 13, and won his first grant from the National Science Foundation in the 8th grade. At age 16, while his parents spiraled into addiction and other tragedies, he was a appointed a US Capital Page by Congressman Robert Dole, and supported himself. He won college scholarships for public speaking. As college junior, he started a universal student evaluation of teachers at the University of Kansas, where he was also the elected student representative on the university promotion and tenure committee. He is an accomplished graphic artist, which also helped him earn a living as a student. Now, he illustrates most of his own medical or scientific graphics. Dr. Embry often uses his own personal history of overcoming family and personal risk factors to illustrate how children who are written off can rise to do great things in the world. He lives in Tucson, with his husband, Richard. They have been together for 25 years. Visit his company website to learn more about his work.
