Dennis's Story

Shortly after graduation, I joined the Marines. It wasn’t long before I was a grunt in Vietnam assigned to Lima Co., 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Arriving in July 1967 the stay was relatively short as I was wounded by a grenade in the Battle for Hue City in February 1968. Back home, after some time in the hospital, I was assigned to Long Beach Naval Station, Marine Barracks, Terminal Island and eventually received an early discharge in May 1969. In December 1969 I joined the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. where I met my lovely wife Sandi. We married 3/18/72 and celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary in 2017. Shortly after, my heart was broken when she passed away May 30 after a short fight with cancer. Sandi and I have 2 children (Tim & Christie) and 3 beautiful granddaughters (Reagan, Liberty and Faith) (Love that name Liberty Freed!). I was assigned to the Hall of Justice Jail then transferred to patrol where I work...Expand for more
ed at both the Firestone and Carson Sheriff’s Substations. I left the department in 1979 and we moved to Washington State where I began a carrer in the insurance claims field. Returning to California in 1986, we moved to Lake Forest where I've lived the last 32 years. I remained in insurance claims with a few different companies and worked my way into management finally retiring in 2014. I remain close friends with some of the guys I went to Bell with and also some I served with in Vietnam. I have attended many Vietnam reunions over the years. I look back fondly at my years at Bell. I started there in 7th grade in 1960 and somehow made it all the way through to graduation in 1966. Lots of terrific friends many of whom I still am in contact. Anytime someone asks me where I am from I proudly tell them Bell, then add, “If its Bell, its swell”. Remember that slogan? Here’s to Eddie Eagle and all the good times!!!!

Is there any wonder there is a war on police? Does this shock your conscience? I guess violence is in the eye of the beholder, right Facebook? This is true and here is the news link to prove it.
