Dennis's Story
After the 6th grade at Lauderbach, I attended CP Junior High 7th and 8th grade, then moved back to San Ysidro and finished out my JR HI at Southwest Jr High, then went onto Mar Vista (for only one semester in the 10th grade) then moved again to Garden Grove where I ended up getting kicked out of school (Bolsa Grande High) for fighting and entered the work force.
My hope was to graduate at High School at CPHS but that didn't happen due to my family moving around so much.
Then in Dec 1964, I joined the Marine Corps, and went straight to Vietnam right out of boot camp! I turned 18 in Chu Lai in August of '65 and when the Class of '66 at CPHS was graduating, I was ending my 14 month tour in VIetnam in Jul of '66 when I returned home.
I got out of the Corps in 1967, got married then divorced after 5 years and re-enlisted in ...Expand for more
the Marine Corps in October of '72 and retired from the Corps after 23 years of service as a Gunnery Sergeant, Intelligence Chief.
On my last deployment In 1987, I was diagnosed with Non-Hogkins Lymphoma as a result of my "visit" to Vietnam after being exposed to Agent Orange. Needless to say, I'm VERY HAPPY to be above the sod!
I re-married in Nov of '74 and am happily married now going on 40 years.
We have 3 kids, 8 grand kids, and 3 geat-grand kids. All of the kids are gone, so it's just my wife Glenda, Buddy (my parrot), and myself enjoying "the golden years."
I retired a second time in 2011 after working for 48 years and I live in Escondidio.
I'd be glad to hear form anyone who remembers me from the "old days."
P.S. I'd also like to hear fom anyone who remembers the fight I got into on Graduation day at Lauderbach.
