Dennis's Story

January 24, 2012 I've recently turned 55 and with age comes a tendency to look back in time. I can honestly say that the three years at Pace where some of the best times of my life. After graduation while were waiting to turn in our cap and gowns a few tears came from my eyes and when asked why, my reply was that the fun was over and real life was about to begin. After going to PJC for a couple of years, I ran out of money for school so I went to Alaska to work on the pipeline and when I came home Phyllis and I were married. We moved back to Texas where my dad, brother and I started a construction company. We did reasonable well until the early 90's when the oil field crunch hit and when there is a down turn in oil in Texas it affects everthing. Dad decided to close down at that time because we could get out clean with out owing anyone. Along the way we had two daughters and living in the same house with three women is a story unto itself. I worked for other companies and did very well eventually reaching a deal to purchase a construction company out right in November of 97. I guess God decided it wasn't ment to be because in December...Expand for more
of 97 I came down with multiple sclerosis. I tried to continue working against doctor's orders, I had two teenage girls depending on me, but after a few years the MS changed from remitting relapsing to secondary progressive and I had to guit. Phyllis, who is a school teacher had a chance to come back and teach for the Santa Rosa School District and I encouraged her to do so, her parents are still here and after thirty odd years of living in Texas she didn't get to see them very often. My days are mostly spent queitly resting at home. i have my hobbies and an 18 month old grandson that is my pride and joy. What ever energy I have is his and he is all boy. :) As a great American once said 'Life is like a box of chocolets, you never know what you're going to get'. Boy did he get that right! As we age thru the last twenty or thirtly years of our lives, and old memories become our best friends, I can honesly say that my short time in Pace and the people that I knew there are some of my most cherished memories. Tom, Felicia, Kim, Susan, Phyllis, Coach Russell, Mr. Hawthorn, Mrs. Conklin and so many others hold a special place in my heart.
