Dennis's Story

Life Dennis J. Hebert, CLU ChFC CLTC MSFS AEP RFC AIF CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Following graduation from Onondaga Community College and the University of Bridgeport, Dennis spent five years with the IBM organization. In 1975 he entered the financial services industry, continuing his education by obtaining his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter), ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant), AEP (Accredited Estate Planner) and CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designations. In 1998 Dennis completed his MSFS (Masters of Science in Financial Services), in 2003 became an RFC (Registered Financial Consultant), in 2006 earned the AIF (Accredited Investment Fiduciary) designation and in 2007 earned the CLTC (Certified in Long Term Care) designation. Maintaining an active interest in industry affairs, Dennis has served as President of: The Financial Planning Association of CNY, the CNY Society of Financial Service Professionals, the CNY General Agents and Managers Association (GAMA), The Syracuse Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors (SAIFA), and The CNY Estate Planning Council. Currently Dennis is Chairman of the Board and Ethics Chair (and Ethics Instructor) of FPA-CNY (Financial Planning Association), and has served on the CFP National Board of Professional Review. On the civic side, Dennis is a past Board member of the Syracuse Executive Association; served ten years as a Board member of the North Syracuse Babe Ruth/Little League; six years on the Board of the Salt City Figure Skaters Inc. and coached baseball and soccer. He is currently President of the Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, President of the Pastimes Golf League, Treasurer of the Liverpool Republican Party and a Liverpool Village Trustee. Dennis was named to “Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges” and twice nominated to “The Outstanding Young Men of America”. Prior to returning to Syracuse, Dennis received citations from the NH State Senate, NH Governor Hugh Gallen and Nashua, NH Mayor Maurice Arel recognizing his civic achievements. Dennis was honored with the 2001 Distinguished Service Award from the CNY Society of Financial Service Professionals and the 2004 Distinguished Service Award from the Syracuse Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors. Dennis has taught classes in the areas of Estate and Financial Planning for the American College, SUNY Empire College and his professional associations and is Adjunct Professor teaching CFP classes at Bryant & Stratton College. He has been quoted by Jane Bryant Quinn in “Newsweek”, Financial Planning magazine, USA Today and others. He is a frequent speaker on financial and estate planning throughout New York and New England. Locally he appears on the WCNY’s Financial Fitness show and weekly on WSTM’s Financial 411 show. Dennis lives in the Village Liverpool with his wife of 42 years, Judi. His daughter Jennifer (also a Village resident) works with him, his son Christopher is a writer and works as an Editor for the University of Michigan Press. Dennis is President of Hebert Financial Strategies, an independent, fee based financial planning and investment management firm in the Village of Liverpool.
