Dennis's Story

My story after graduation; where should I start? I wasn't the smartest kid back 64 but iv'e came along way since those days. I did a lot of manual labor jobs after graduating before uncle sam decided he needed me for the Viet-Nam war. I and Mike Cappano ended up joining the Navy on the buddy plan in 1965, after bootcamp we split up going to different commands. I spent 3yrs, 9mos,28day before being discharged. I spent a year in Norfolk. Va before moving to Bristol, Tn where I lived for another year before moving back to Albuquerque. I worked at Sanchez bus company before going to UNM, Where I graduated in 1977 with a BS degree in Industrial Education. I also got married and had a son (Dennis) before graduating from UNM. I taught at TVI for a short period of time, looking to getting a full time job with the NM Air National Guard. Unfortunately someone from Arizona took the position so I ended up joining the Navy again. I spent the next sixteen plus years serving my country enjoying all the different ports through the world. I must say i'm proud to be an American. While in the Navy we had our second child in Key West, Fl. I was stationed on a hydrofoil, one of the high lights of my carrier. Anyway I retired in 1994 fro...Expand for more
m SupShips Seattle, Wa and moved back to San Diego, working for the Hyatt Hotel as their lead maintenance technician. I left there to teach NJROTC at Culver City, then Reseda High where we took a lot of competitions. My second year there we went to nationals in Pensacola, Fl. What a rush, to bad we came in dead last but just making it was just worth the hard work and dedication from the cadets. Shortly after meeting my third wife, I followed her from entering the Navy, bootcamp graduation, to her duty station in Lemoore, CA. We bought a house there and I worked at a big air condition, refrigeration contractor. I had a better offer from the casino in town so I took it. I spent the next five years there as the plant operation supervisor. My wife decided to leave the Navy after seven years to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. So we sold our house and moved to Austin, Tx where she plans to attend college. I have a great life and a wonderful wife that loves me dearly as I do her. If I had it to do over again I don't think I would change anything because I am a very happy camper and hope everyone else from the class of 64 the same. Hope to see everyone at the next reunion. You can catch me on face book if you like.
