Dennis's Story
Dennis's schools include W. Tresper Clarke High School. Graduated in 1968, played football and lacrosse.
My name in high school was Dennis White also known as "Whitey"
In 1975 I had a legal last name changed to McCoy my Mom's maiden name. She was killed on the Wantagh Parkway in a car accident. She was a single Mom and served as a mom & dad to her 4 children.. She taught first grade at Holy Family for over 15 years. She was going to get an annulment and then a civil divorce, unfortunately - she passed away suddenly. I had made a promise that if she was going to do this I would too. My name is now Dennis McCoy as I fulfilled my promise.
After High School I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and became a field radio operator and served...Expand for more
in Vietnam 69-70 with 1st battalion 5th Marines. I was one of lucky ones... I came home..
After my service I started as a waiter, bartender, assistant manager, manager and eventually owner/operator of the once famous Gatsby's Pub, Westbury NY. I worked in that industry for over 25 years.
I later moved to Arizona and worked in the media industry for 10 years, I worked for the Arizona Republic and later with USA TODAY/Gannett. I'm married to my beautiful wife Beth for over 26 years - I have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Later we moved to Florida for 10 years. We currently reside in Florida and New York City. Still working out every day and still trying to lose weight - never easy..
