Dennis's Story
Life
After being graduated from PCHS I attended the Univ. of GA. receiving a degree in fine arts. While at Georgia I married the former Kathy Bradley of Athens. A daughter, Shaun, was born. I joined the army and flew helicopters for the 1st Cav. Div. for a couple of years in Viet Nam.
I returned home, Kathy and I were divorced and I returned to Eatonton and worked for a number of years for The Eatonton Messenger.
I returned to school and received a baccalaureat and master's degree in marketing/management.
During my second college career I met Linda Bloodgood.
We eventually married in 1985. In 1989 our first daughter, Margaret was born. Our second daughter, Amanda Kate was born in 1993, but sadly she died at birth.
I worked for 16 years in industrial sales/management. In 1998 I made a carreer change to corporate quality management so that I could be at home.
I live in the Roswell/Alpharetta area of Georgia.
As usual, doing more adventurous things, am now teaching scuba diving and am in the process of building an ultra light airplane.
I still have a tendency to do wild and crazy things.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
Wildmen forever . . .
. . . and yes, I do know who wrote the stuff about Acree on the side of the gym.
School
Rea...Expand for more
lly enjoyed high school. Played football, ran track, was in the one act play cast, chorus, boy's quartet, boy's declamation and all of the sundry clubs in order to get out of class. Had some great teachers, Hunter Strickland, Doris Marshall, Louise Ashurst, Mamie DeLoach . . . one or two others.
Saddest day in high school was when Robert Yarborough was killed in a car wreck. He was a good friend and I still miss him.
One of my greatest regrets and abject apologies are to those upon whom I puked while on the bus headed to Daytona.
I still think Karen Bryant had the best legs in the class.
Military
Joined the army in '69 and ended up in Viet Nam flying helicopters for the 1st Cavalry Division.
First tour was as a medevac pilot with the 15th medevac out of Cu Chi. Got medevaced myself to Hawaii for a short period after a "rather hard" landing. Second tour was with B/229th Avn. Bn. (Killer Spades)
Was awarded the Silver Star medal twice, the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star medal with "V" divice for valor, the Air Medal (47 times) with "V" device for valor, the Purple Heart medal, and all the other salad dressing medals. Good thing is that I came back with all of my fingers, toes, arms and legs and a greater sense of what is important and what is not.
