Dennis's Story

Life In 1957 my family moved to NJ from Ohio. After graduation from WOHS I continued to work at South MT. Arena skate shop until I went into the Army for 3 long years. After that I spent a short time in retail and than insurance sales with Met Life for 2 years. I moved to the SF Bay area in 1965 and again went back to retail sales till 1971 when I got into the ultimate retail sales, real estate. In two years I became a broker and had my own company until 1985. "When business is good you don't have time to take a day off and when business is bad you're afraid to take a day off." In 1982 along with my younger brother Greg we started Bright Star Security, Inc. We have just finished our 24th year and there is never a dull moment. My sons are 20 & 22. I play as much tennis and golf as possible. I am looking forward to total retirement. Rumor has it I've already retired, but I don't spend all my time on the golf course or tennis court or I'd play better. In Feb.05 I injured my knee and had not played tennis until 11/04/06. I paid dearly the next day, but I'm getting better. In March 05 I bought a 2005 Honda Goldwing ABS. Since than I've been through each of the 48 lowers states and 5 providences in Canada. This summer I went to Nova Scotia and back to CA. The last part of the ride was an Iron Butt Extreme Gold Ride of 1,500+ miles in less than 24 hours. I think I did it just to prove a 65 year old guy still had the ability to hang in with the younger riders. I'm still missing Alaska and Hawaii and I'm waiting for that highway to be built for the ride to Hawaii, Alaska may be next summer. Up date: Alaska and several providences in Canada were bagged 7/11-7/20/07. Not much time to site see, but did have rain almost every day of the ride. Worst road of the entire trip was highway 80 in CA. UP DATE Sept. 24, 2016 Still kicking, Moved to Yerington, NV, the town no one knows where it's at. Yerington is about 1 1/2 hours out of Carson City and 1 3/4 hours out of Reno, 380 miles to Las Wages. I live alone most of the time in a 3,242 sq. ft home on 2.56 acres of landscape property. The home is 14 miles out of town and was built in 1995. Two contractor sons built it for their parents. The other son went to school learning about flowers and trees and ponds. He walked me through the property after I bought it and pointed to plants I had never seen before and gave me their Latin? names. I'm lost, never did like latin. I do know the well has lots of water and the pump works. They told me it was designed to have different flowers come up every month. I guess that's so the deer don't get tired of eating the same old flowers. Every morning I take my b b gun out and explain to the deer there is a price to pay, when I shoot them in the butt. Having had b b gun wars when I was a kid, I know it hurts, but doesn't break the skin. I still ride the Honda Goldwing, but haven't done a long road trip since I rode it from CA to NV. I'm still trying to lease my resort, in Novato, CA. Pool, spa, tennis court, last couple who wanted to rent it had 4 adult children and 2 home schooled teenagers. The kicker was 7 cars and bad credit. My neighbor who sued me over my parking of my travel trailer on my property would have been a little unhappy. I lost the suit and the trailer is now next t...Expand for more
o my home in NV. I hope to get to Quartzsite, AZ again this winter to hunt for gold and fly R/C airplanes, but I also really want to see what this place is like with snow. Yerington has a population of about 3,085 and three casinos. I saw a T-shirt that read, " Yerington is so small the local hooker is still a virgin". Baron Hilton has his Flying M ranch around here someplace. They tell me when Paris is in town she bring lots of people with her. She a little too young for me. I played golf on a real course in Dayton,NV Tuesday, but had to drive about 120 miles to play. No course locally. In AZ I play desert golf with one very old club. My email is drmsvr4 at yaho. Up date: my CA resort has sold, so I won't have to move back to save the $250,000. tax deduction. I'll miss that place but not the sue happy jealous neighbors. The traffic got to be insane and the politics worse. June 1, 2019 I took my ATV for a 45 mile 5 hour ride through the beautiful mountains (hills) in Lyon County,NV. I haven't started to fall apart yet, but I did take some Aleve later. Life is good, but the shortage of women in this area is depressing. I started to my snow bird destination in Quartzsite, AZ on 10/10/19. My travel trailer burned as I was coming down a long hill half a mile from the bridge between NV and AZ in Laughlin, NV. In 15 minutes everything was toast. Two weeks later I had a new travel trailer and now I'm in AZ. All my gold mining equipment, metal detector, 3 pistols and a M1 carbine all burned. Now I'm trying to replace it. Weather here is not that great and with rain a dry washer doesn't work even if I could find one. I can't travel into Mexico because my passport was in the trailer along with a brand new MacBook Air computer. The previous Saturday I spilled coffee on my old one and got a new one Monday. It went up in flames on Thursday. Not a good week. Up date 08/17/20 I just returned from a 3,177 mile motorcycle ride to Sturgis, SD on my Honda Goldwing. Two days to get there, two days to visit and two days to get back home. This was my 5th time and maybe my last. Too many people and too much noise. Where I usually ride now in NV, the roads are fairly straight, but coming out of Salt Lake City during rush hour there are many turns on highway 80 through the mountains. Speed limit was posted 45, but the cars were bumper to bumper, 3 across, doing 75 to 80. No place to pull over and wait for the Indy 500 to subside. Because of that I decided to take a different way home. I went through Denver with the temperature 104 degrees, then on to Vale and Steamboat Springs. The scenery is beautiful, but there were lots of curves and a lot of road construction, mostly going the other way, thank goodness. Also a more sane speed. The opposite lane was stop and go for 25 miles. Finally got out on highway 50 " The loneliest Highway in America". There you can see for 10+ miles and the road is very straight. I've heard some folks set the cruise control at 100 mph and drive for 20 minutes at that speed, before realizing, there are still other things you want to do in life, without turning into a vegetable on highway 50. Yesterday in washing the motorcycle I noticed my rear tire was flat, I wonder if I was riding on that and for how long? Stay happy and healthy, Dennis
