Dennis's Story

Wow! I sat down to begin telling "my story" per request from classmates and I find myself staring at the screen pondering what to say so here goes... First and foremost I confused many at graduation. I was registered as Dennis Seastone by my parents when we moved to Sparta. This is actually my stepfather's last name. When they announced Dennis Garot at graduation, I remember my class all looking around and asking who? After graduating Sparta in 1984, I went to WVU where I was to major in Business Admin. I spent 2 years arguing with myself as to whether this is what I really wanted to do. To confirm it was not, I went back to our good ole guidance department at Sparta and did a career search. When I think back to that search a have to laugh. Does anybody remember accessing databases in those days? Pick up the phone, dial a number and stick the receiver in a coupler and eventually you are given a black screen with green writing from a computer in Trenton. Anyway, the database search told me that one of the highest matching jobs for me would be education. I thought about it. It made sense so I transferred to Kutztown University in PA where I received a BS in Education with certification in Special Ed. and Elementary Ed. It was a 6 year plan since I lost so many credits transferring! So I started my career as a Special Educator in East Hanover NJ in a resource room at the HS level. I also coached the varsity soccer team as it was and still is my passion with respect to sports. This same year (1990) I got married to Christine. We met while I was at WVU. 18 years later we are still going strong with the understanding that if Jennifer Gardner or Charlize Theron ever approach me it is over!! sooo I taught for several years and found it too confining for me. I was offered a job running a facility in Bucks County,PA that trains and places adults with special needs into ...Expand for more
competative employment. I took it and we moved to Newtown,PA Bucks County. In 1998 we had a son we named Matthew Dennis. MD for short as well as a hint to him for future career choices!!! In 2001 we moved to Somerville, NJ for Christine to restart her own teaching career. I still maintain my present job in Bucks county and commute across the Delaware 2x/day. So what do I do in my spare time? When I am not at Matthew's soccer, baseball, wrestling and soon to be added football games, I played in a 20 and over, 30 and over and now 40 and over soccer club. Yikes! Some jokingly claim this next item of interest was a lapse in mental judgement on my part, but I am presently the President of our Board of Education. Not the best environment to hold this position but I find it challenging and rewarding for the children of our town. An old professor from Kutztown, Dr. Eileen Liddicoat, once told me to "touch the lives of others and make a better world". I took her up on her challenge. Sooo to get away from the stresses of work and civic resposibilities you can find me taking in very eclectic concerts or just fishing, kayaking and barbequing at a little lake called Deer lake up in Boonton township that we belong to. Probably along with others who read this, I have been taking in the concerts of all the 1980's groups that ran out of money! I will even admit that I am going to see the Idol tour in AC albeit more for my son. Point of musical interest: Before I moved to Sparta in 1979, I lived in Seattle where at the age of 10 I saw Elvis in concert! I consider this music oldies. When I listen to the radio today they are referring to music from the 80's as oldies. Ouch! For anybody reading this bio, I wish you well. If you get the opportunity in this crazy, busy world that seems to be time excelerated, drop me a line if you are so inclined. Best to you! Dennis
