Dennis's Story

My wife, Roberta, and I live in a community called Bell Mountain Ranch in Castle Rock, Colorado. We are both retired now. When I sold my home in Littleton, Colorado recently to move to Bell Mountain Ranch one of my neighbors from the old neighborhood said kiddingly; "oh your going out to pasture" ! Anyway Roberta and I are proud of our children and grandchildren. My daughter by a previous marriage lives in San Carlos, California where her husband, Evan, works for Google. My daughter, now a housewife with two beautiful children, has her B.S. in Business from Colorado University and Masters and PhD degrees from Carnegie Mellon University in Communication, Planning and Information Design. Roberta youngest son, also by a previous marriage, just graduated with his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University and is moving to Lyon, France next month. Roberta's son Michael lives in Tokyo with his new wife, Mariko, and child and works for Tokyo University in computer science. We attended their traditional Shinto wedding ceremony in Tokyo last summer. Roberta's daughter and son-in-law lives here in Parker, Colorado with their two beautiful children. Her daughter also has an advanced degree a Masters degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. So they are all working and that's a good thing! Briefly, after I graduated from our alma mater, I attended Gannon University for two years where my academic success was, well, let's say, horrific. So in June 1967 I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp...Expand for more
s. Was sent immediately to Vietnam as a combat rifleman (grunt) with my first duty station being Khe Sanh during the siege of the airbase by the North Vietnamese Army. I received a Purple Heart and my unit, 1st Battalion of the 9th Marines 1/9, received a Presidential Unit Citation. After my service, I returned to Gannon with better academic success and a degree in Accounting and later a MBA from the University of Northern Colorado. I moved to Colorado in 1975 working on the staff of the U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of the Inspector General. I retired in 2003 as Director of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's National Business Center which required a top secret clearance. I also taught for 10 years on the adjunct facilities of Colorado University, Regis University and the University of Phoenix. In 2008 I was elected to public office for the Ken Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District's Board of Directors and served the 14,000 resident community as Treasurer. While on the board I initiated the building of a Veteran's Monument which will be completed this year with private funds. Now days, Roberta and I travel and cruise around quite a bit and we are enjoying our new home, our grandchildren and retirement immensely. I play golf religiously and mess around in the stock market with some success until this month (August 2915)!! Anyway I look forward to our 50th reunion and will keep forever the treasured memories of my classmates and the good times at Strong Vincent High School.
