Dennis's Story

Life I was born in 1957 in Houma, LA. When I was about 5, we moved to New Orleans so my dad could be an air traffic controller. I have a younger brother (Duane, b. 1959) and a younger sister (Stephanie, b. 1960). In 1965, we moved to Houston when the Intercontinental Airport was built. We lived in Spring Branch, near Hollibrook Elem. School. In the middle of 5th grade, we moved to Prism Lane near Spring Woods High School. I attended Westbrook Elem, Spring Oaks J.H. and then Spring Woods, graduating from Spring Woods in '75. I moved to Huntsville in '75 and started college at SHSU. During my time in Huntsville, I was very active in church. My wife (Brenda) and I met in Huntsville while attending SHSU. She was teaching elem. school in Huntsville. We married during my senior year of college. We moved to Texas City in '81 to teach in La Marque. Then moved to Bryan in '82. Brenda is from Bryan. We still live in Bryan/College Station. Our first daughter (Monica) was born in '84. She got her degree from Texas State University, and is now married, and lives in Oklahoma City. She's in the insurance business. Our second daughter (Melanie) was born in '89, and is a senior at Texas State. Brenda is the counselor at Rock Prairie Elem. in College Station. My father is still living in the 1960 area of Houston, and just bought a second home in Lake City, Colorado. My mother moved away from Houston in '01, and is now in Houma, LA. Duane is still in Houston, working in technical sales. Stephanie is back in college in Scottsdale, AZ. I enjoy playing music (drums/percussion) movies, camping and fishing. School I attended Resurrection of Our Lord School in ...Expand for more
New Orleans in the early 60's. I moved to Houston in 9/65, and enrolled at Hollibrook Elem. I was in 3rd grade, and Mrs. Gardner was my teacher. 9/66 - I had Mrs. Catlin in 4th grade. 9/67 - Ms. La Vasseur was my 5th grade teacher. In the fall of '67, I moved from the Hollibrook area to the Spring Woods HS area of Houston. I really would like to see some of my classmates from Hollibrook, since most of those people ended up going to Northbrook HS. In 12/67, my 5th grade teachers at Westwood Elem. were Miss Lind and Miss Drager. I started Spring Oaks Jr. High in 9/68, and then Spring Woods HS in 9/71. I graduated from Spring Woods in 1975. College I went to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville right after high school, from '75 -'81. I graduated in '81 with a bachelors degree in Music Education. I attended Texas A&M Univ. in College Station in the mid 80's, working on a masters degree in Education Administration. Workplace After I got my degree in Music Education in '81, I started teaching at La Marque High School, in La Marque, TX. I was the assistant band director at the high school, and also taught the jazz ensemble and band classes at the elem. school. In '82, I moved to Bryan to be the band director at Stephen F. Austin Jr. High in Bryan. I taught there until '86. In '82, I started playing professionally with The Pete Rodriguez Orchestra, a local band that played mostly at wedding receptions. I played with Pete from '82-'96. In '97, I started playing with other groups, and still play with many local musicians and I do recording sessions. In '87, I left teaching to become an insurance agent. I represent Farmers Insurance in Bryan.
