Dennis's Story
Workplace
Upon completing an electronic certificate program at RISE, I worked for a short period of time repairing office equipment for Gestetner Corp out of Prov, RI. Next took a field service job with HES Inc in Pawcatuck CT performing
electrical installation and start-up service on Davis Standard extrusion equipment as well as Harris Graphics printing presses. Lots of travel, but not as glamorous as it sounds. Going from cust-to-cust, city-to-city gets old rather quickley.
While on a service call in Worcester MA, I was offered a position with the Telegram & Gazette and initially wasn't interested. But after six more months of 80-90% travel I jumped ship and it was a great 10yr experience. Within six months I was promoted to Equipment Maintenance Manager with the responsibility for all electrical and mechanical installation, and subsequent maintenance, at a new production facility.
After ten years I became restless and was offered a position with a start-up company in Walpole MA as a service manager. That was not such a good experience...I'll leave it at that!
And now I'm working as ...Expand for more
a field service engineer in Hudson MA with Applied Materials and again getting restless.
Military
Left Great Lakes in the middle of January for sunny San Juan in my winter blues and promptly melted upon arriving in PR. The airport at that time was not air conditioned and it was 90+ degrees. Fortunately, a LCDR spotted me before I started disrobing and asked if I needed a lift to the base. As we walked through the terminal and onto the tarmac, it finally dawned on me he was a pilot and the "lift" was a c-130 back to Roosey Roads Naval Air Sta.
The next 18 mos was chock full of fond memories, both of people and events, which bring a smile to my face to this day.
Boz, John, Jimbo, Rye from Chi,JT,Hillbilly,Leycock, Loquillo beach, The Condado, San Juan, flag footbal and softball tournies,
Cathy,IS,D'Ann and and my sweet Elaine.
Time spent in jail, the brig (if you could call it that), Antigua. Parties on the beach, at the base, in Fajardo, in cow fields, in VA and best of all - at the end of the hall. That's until the Nazi cooks took over the barracks.
What a view from atop the hill!
