Dennise's Story
Life
When I graduated from El Rancho, way back in the day, I thought that I was all grown up and knew exactly where I was going and what I wanted to do. Well, when I turned 22, I awoke to the grim realization that not only did I have no idea what I was doing but also that I was lost on where I was going and who I was. Talk about a reality check. At that moment, I was introduced to the life changing philosophy that life, in all it's wisdom, would show me the way if I only slowed down enough to see the path. Well, being the high strung character I am, slowing down was the last thing I was ready to do. After many years of living in the proverbial fast lane, I heeded the philsosphical advice and went back to college. As it stands, I have a BA in Psychology, a Teaching Credential in Special Education, and I am currently persuing a Master's in Special Education. As I sit here today and ponder why I chose a most difficult path to venture down, I surmise that maybe, just maybe, by struggling through that last 6 years of being a full time student, full time mother, part time Instructional Aide, and full time wife, I have been able to give my children the opportunity to see first hand what it is that all of our moms and dads tried to convey to us as teens. "What ever you do in life, make sure to go to college and finish BEFORE you have a husband/wife and kids."

et's hear it for Rio Vista Elementary!! Okay, truth be told, I really don't remember too much about it. I do recall a lot more about Meller Jr. High these days. My son and daughter are in 6th and 7th. Dang, I do remember feeling a bit awkward, but now adays it's crazy in Jr. High!! God, does anybody remember Mrs. Bruin!! I hated her class, I do believe that she was the one that turned me away from English FOREVER!!
College
What a trip!! Work, study, and a great sense of accomplishment. Not to mention, the ultimate curve buster!! Let's hear it for the old broads going back to school!!
Workplace
Since I was 14 years old, I have been working. I worked in fast food (3 months...YUCK), as a secretary (I DO NOT take orders very well), and then a long stint in fine dining. I made great $$, but wanted the proverbial 401K and medical and dental benefits. So, after long contemplation over my future, I decided to attain my credential and I currently teach Algebra and Geometry to students with special needs at Redlands High School in Redlands, CA. I am also finishing my GE Math credential so I can also teach the GE population. Eventually, I want to leave the classroom and finish my PhD in Psychology focusing on Education or possibly rewrite the curriculum for students with special needs. Or, option 3, I will win the lottery, retire immediately, and travel the world...LOL
