Derek's Story
Life
Wow. In 50 words or less, I went to Berkeley and loved it. Played JV Basketball and got a degree in English. Lived in France and Belgium and loved it. Worked for a consulting firm (social service programs) in Los Angeles. Did a Masters Program in International Relations. Got married and divorced and married to someone else. Made it through Law School and now spend my time wrestling 5 kids from ages 1-13. I laugh a lot, cry some, worry a little, eat too much, argue politics with my father-in-law, read, listen to music, do some volunteer stuff. Was playing basketball and softball regularly up until a couple years ago. Can't find some of the folks from Pueblo, so thought I'd try here.
School
This covers a couple schools in different states. Pueblo was a riot. I still can't imagine we had such a blast at such a young age. If my younger brother, who grew up in Los Angeles, had done some of the things we did in Scottsdale, he would have been shot. Several times.
Uni was also a blast for me. Most of you probably don't remember me, which I find oddly appropriate. Those who do may not have...Expand for more
fond memories. Well, I recall an ability to be cutting, which I get paid for now as a lawyer. I apologize if I offended. I remember most of you, though, mostly fondly, and I bust up every time I see "Dazed and Confused" on T.V. It could not have been more fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know so many different types of people. Hope you are all doing well.
College
To be a non-partyer at CAL was an astounding experience. I loved the diversity, the intellectual stimulation, the silliness. Made some great friends as roomates and playing ball, became a cult icon for sitting on a specific wall on campus all day. Dated a couple very nice young ladies, one of whom is the only ex-girlfriend who will still speak to me. Imagine that.
Workplace
After a lot of fun teaching and consulting with social service programs, I finally succumbed and became an attorney. My gig is pretty low-stress, defending construction subcontractors, and I work from home, so breaks are usually spent with the kids, which is nice. Sometimes I wish I did something more useful, but I guess supporting the family qualifies.
