Derek's Story
What can I say? I have discovered over the years that you never know where life will take you. I have been up and down to heaven and hell. I have brought misery and redemption upon myself. OK so I am being as little overly dramatic, I know.
My life has taken turns I never thought would happen since high school. In the words of the Grateful Dead "What a long strange trip it's been." I am so grateful to my failures and successes because I love the life I have now. I see that everything I have ever done has come to make me who I am today. (Yes I know its getting dramatic again).
I find it funny that now that I'm in my 30's I don't really different that that long-haired guy who doesn't care what the world thinks of him.
I am currently a pretty good husband and a great father of 3 boys. I have been married for 10 years now ...Expand for more
and my wife is my entire life. Our boys are 8, 5, and 2. My family is everything to me.
I am currently teaching World Geography at a junior high in American Fork Utah. I love my job and I am crazy passionate about helping kids see the world from perspectives beyond their own. I have taught English in past years, but can't stand the No child Left Behind crap that came along and ruined that subject for me. I can't imagine doing anything else in the world besides teaching. I often wonder if I would still do it if they didn't pay me, Oh wait I'm a teacher so I guess that isn't much of a stretch.
