Derrek Hamilton:

CLASS OF 1981
Ridgecrest, CA

Derrek's Story

After graduating high school I moved to Hemet, Ca. While working as an assistant store manager for K-Mart I meet my wife Pam. We spent 3 years getting to know each other . We have been married since 1987. Pam enjoyed being a Jewelry store manager for several years and now works a part-time job to keep her busy. Pam also fills her time with spending time with her mom. My career moved me to Harris Department Stores where I started my career as a Loss Prevention Manager. While at Harris I was promoted up to the Corporate Director of Loss Prevention. I moved onto Wards as a Zone Loss Prevention & Safety Manager. After 2 years, Wards filed bankruptcy the first time and I was down sized. At that time Pam and I decided to move from Ca. to Illinois. In Illinois, I worked for Target for 8 years and then moved on to Kohl's as a District Loss Prevention Manager, where I am today. Pam and I don't have any children. However we have been foster parents. This was especially rewarding to help guide these kids. We had as many as 5 children in our home at one time, with over 20 children moving through our home. Some of our spare time was filled with restoring a 1955 Ford Fairlane car. We pulled it from a farmer's field and we personally restored the car from the ground up. This was truly fun doing this together then enjoying our work through cruises. We've enjoyed our dogs Brandy, Velvet, and Shadow, all who have passed on. Abby is our current joy to spoil. Each one has held a special place in our hearts with Brandy (beige) and Abby (black) being American Cocker Spaniels and Velvet (black and brown) and Shadow (blac...Expand for more
k and brown) being British Cocker Spaniels. All have been rescued from shelters. When my mom passed away in 2001, being in Illinois with mom in Ca., and not there for her finial days Pam and I decided that we would not allow that to happen again. When Pam's father fell ill we moved him from Arizona to our home in Illinois. He spent his last 30 days of life with his daughter looking out our front window onto the lake. He fell asleep in bed and never awoke. It was one of our best experiences we could have ever been involved. Pam's mother we moved to Illinois where she still lives. We moved within 4 homes of her so that we can be there for an emergency and take care of anything she needs to have done around the house. Pam and I also enjoyed the mission trip to Washington DC with our church where we assisted in fixing up churches and homes. We have also helped elder widows that need work completed around their home. Most of the widows don't have the money to have the work done around their home so we do the work for free. All we ask is that they share what we did with someone else who may need the same type of work done. It's very rewarding to help someone in need and allows us to do what we enjoy. We are looking forward to where life is going to lead us next. There is always an adventure awaiting for us to explore and learn more about each other. Life has been very good to us and we look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. God has truly blessed us. After a year long battle with cancer my very loving wife passed away on 10/12/2014. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life.
