Derrel's Story
SCHOOL LIFE
I really wanted out of school but that desire changed the first day I went to work. Man what an eye opener. Education became much more important in time and I attended 6 different technical colleges as various job assignments permitted.
Three members of our graduation class did not have their pictures in the school year book; I was one of them. My last school picture appeared in the 8th grade class at Cleveland Jr. Hi.
WORKING CAREER
After Hi School I went into industrial construction and after a few years
became a journeyman plumber, later a master plumber and by 1974 I had changed to pipe fitting and in 1979 to pipe welding in KY.
In 1983 I started a new career in construction engineering and have remained with that ever since. This field required some travel and I worked in 8 states with VA being the longest out of state ...Expand for more
assignment at 5 years.
FAMILY LIFE
In 1966 I married my 16 year old bride who was attending Union Hi.
She was a great student and worked in the school district main office.
We will have been married 43 year on June 18, 2009 and have 3 children. Our oldest son is 39 and the youngest is 33 as of this date [Apr 2009]. Our daughter is 35. She attended universities in England and the USA with a bachelor¿s degree from Lander University in Greenwood and a master¿s degree from the University of South Carolina. She is now teaching school in Ga. We have 2 grand daughters. Both of them are doing great in school. My oldest grand daughter is 18 and attending Lander University studying to be a history school teacher. My youngest grand daughter will be attending Burns High this fall. Gosh, I was always scared of school teachers while in school.
