Sheryl's Story

Life Working in advertising - Internet Marketing and Yellow Page advertising on a National level. Busy, changing work environment keeps it interesting. Living in Murrieta - had to get away from the crowds in Costa Mesa. Married for 23 years - 2 children 1 daughter and 1 son + 1 granddaughter. My son, Sean is a U.S. Marine CPL (corporal) - Aviation Mechanic - Super Stallion Helicopters. War deployment scheduled mid-2006. He is stationed way over in NC, we miss him terribly. He turned 21 last year. My daughter, Jennifer is now a recovering drug addict. The 90's were a tough decade. She currently has 24 months clean. She turned 23 last year. Her daughter, my granddaughter, Bailey turned 5 in August 2005. She was given over to one of my sister-in-laws before Jennifer turned her life around. She is completing the adoption now. Unfortunately we don't get to see her as often as we would like to, only about 4 x per year. I am former Army and my husband Army and Marine Corp. Started scuba diving a few years ago and now all vacations are planned around diving trips. Can't wait to retire - planning on moving back to Hawaii (lived there in late 70's w/Marshall Bell). Yes I married Carlita Daymon's younger brother - Michael. School Crush? Marshall. Inspiring teacher? Mr. Daley - AV/TV teacher. Would I do it all over again? Yes, but the hind sight being 20-20 would make it so much easier! Used to drive around with Diane, Linda, Lori, Karen hanging B.A.'s (their last names have been omitted to protect the GUILTY!) College Army Boot Camp and Army life was as close to College dorm rooms as I got. After 60 days in a tent with only wash cloths for bathing - can't say I miss it. Attended some classes at OCC - would have been nice to go full time. Workplace Working in an incredibly fast-paced, detail-oriented stressful job has its challenges. Always interesting. Work in a small office with a super cool boss. ...Expand for more
Pay is great which makes it impossible to leave. Working for the money afterall! If I won the lottery - I'd be out of here in a heart beat. Military Joined the Army in 1980. I was a Tactical Communication Systems Operator Mechanic. Sound fancy - don't be impressed - basically working on radio's - pulling out batteries, replacing cables, etc. I was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. Same base as Elvis Presley was stationed at. Really old barracks and when they wanted to have fun with us we would run the extra distance past the Elvis Presley Memorial Chow Hall to the back 40 where the limo. would drop him off in the morning. Being a female they quickly moved me into a secretarial role. Of course I didn't get the cushy secretary job for the MSG - I got stuck working for a Major who was a "lifer". First ones in and last out. Sometimes we would go to the field for training exercises 60 days at a time. Freezing beyond belief for a So. Cal. native. You had to walk slow so your eyes didn't freeze. When we were out there we had to sleep in tents over cement slabs. This Major would work about 20 hours a day. Sometimes I would have to drive him around in a jeep with no doors. I would see him starting to fall asleep - look for the biggest pothole and aim right for it. Had to have my laughs when his pencil neck and head with his helmut would go slamming around. I had married another soldier I met in training. Things were really bad physical abuse and all. I got pregnant - hence the 23 year old daughter. Divorced him when she was 6 weeks old, got out of the service. Started dating Michael (Carlita Daymon's younger brother)and we had a son and have been married for 23 years this summer. Even though my times were tough in the Army, I can't say I regret it. It made me who I am today. My husband and I both now have lots of military stories to share not only amongst ourselves, but with both of our fathers and now our son.
