Devetta's Story
Life
What a ride this has been. I'm the proud wife of Roderick, who is a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy and the proud mother of Nissan, Spencer and Makayla. Our oldest daughter is out of the house and married to a wonderful man. They just welcomed their first child and our first grandchild, Aydan. I miss them all terribly. We live in Hawaii and they live on the east coast.
My life has been a very happy and adventurous one. We move about every three years, so we've seen and experienced lots of wonderful people and places. We love the traveling and our children have been blessed to see places I could only dream about seeing in my childhood. Japan was our most loved duty station. We were there 3 1/2 years. We also really like it here in Hawaii. It goes without saying that it's beautiful here, but there is so much to do. However, we do miss the opportunity to take in a road trip or two during the year. I have to say the wonderful lifetime friends we have made along the way has been the best benefit of this lifestyle. We sacrifice a lot, especially my husband, but we have gained a lot too. I couldn't be more proud of my husband for being the kind of man who gives his life for the service of his country. That is a sacrifice he makes daily for our family and for yours!

tary education degree, I've primarily been a stay home mother. I will be headed back to the classroom to teach soon.
Being a stay-home mom and a military spouse was a tough job, but I'm so grateful God blessed me to be able to do it. Children grow up so fast. One of my children has already left the nest, my son is almost 13 and my baby is already 8. Where did the years go? I still can't believe we celebrated our 20 year class reunion this year. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it. It was more important that I fly back for the birth of my grandson, which was the month after the reunion.
When you are a military family, nothing is etched in stone, so we really don't know where we are headed next. I'm praying for anywhere near my daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Where ever we end up, we always make the best of it because we have each other. Family is truly where home is. When you are a military family, you're better off finding the pros of every place you go. Life is too short to gripe and complain about something you have no ultimate control over.
Well, that's pretty much my life. I have so much more to do and so much more to see. I'm looking forward to the second half with great anticipation. With every passing day, the flowers smell sweeter and the sky looks a more vivid hue of Carolina blue and I thank God for every opportunity, big and small.
