Devin's Story
Many of you may not recognize the Harvey name, but in an attempt to honor my father's side of my family, I chose to graduate using the Harvey name. After graduating high school, I spent a couple of years at IVC trying to figure out what to do with my life. I spent a great many hours in the Student Union playing hearts or wist with my friends, and playing baseball for the Arabs. Eventually I landed a job with Chalfont Ambulance where I learned to enjoy helping people in need. That eventually turned into a 28-year fire service career. I left El Centro in 1988 to pursue a different avenue in the fire service field. ...Expand for more
That took me to the San Francisco Bay Area for 15 wonderful years. I'm so happy that I did that. It was hard leaving the Valley, but all-in-all, the best thing I ever did for myself. Life in the Valley is fine, but until you leave and explore other venues, you're missing out on a lot. I miss home, and I still visit on a regular basis. My family, and some very dear friends, still live in the Valley, and it's a joy to come visit every now and again. I'm retired now after 28 years in the fire service, and I'm enjoying life in the slow lane. I have a daughter, Courtney (31), and a wonderful wife of 24 years (Wendy).
