Dexter's Story
Hello everyone: Well for the past thirty years I have been in Federal Prison. First in Terre Haute, Indiana, then around to various places in the US, and finally in Three Rivers Texas. Oh yeah I work there, I don't live there. I have held various positions during my tenure, including Officer, Recreation Specialist, Couselor, and finally Case Manager. After all of my rebellion as a teenager I became the establishment. In the 1980's I decided that I liked the adrenline rush I felt when there was trouble so I joined the Department of Justice Special Operation Response Team. I held positions such as marksman observer (formally sniper) and Tacticle Entry-Team member. I left my first team in Indiana in 1992 and was picked up by this team in Texas after I transferred here. After getting tired of long runs, obstacle courses, and getting busted up physically I decided to leave the fun stuff to the twenty-three year olds and became the Tactical Officer for the Crisis Negotiation Team (formally the Hostage Negotiation Team). nitored my former team-mates on the radio and coordinated their efforts with the intell gathered from negotiations. I left that life in 2010 when I became a Case Manager. I miss it dearly. I was eligible for retirement in July 2008 when I turned 50 but I can stay until they kick me out at mandatory retirement age of 57. I guess they don't want me hitting an inmate with my walker or cane. I am married again and have three children by my marriage to the former Terry Walker (class of 1976) and two step-kids by my current ball and chain. My two step-daughters are in Lawrence Kansas and Chicago working on their Doctorial degrees, while I have a daughter at Ball State and a son who earned his Bachlor's Degree at IUPUI. He now works in the Indiana House of Congress as a Congressional aide. My oldest son is in the Air Force stationed in Seymore Johnson North Carolina. I found Bill Fanning, and his lovely wife Julia, and drop them a line every once in a while. I keep track of several old classmates on Face Book. I miss Indiana but fell in love with Texas.
