Anne's Story
I have recently touched base with an old friend who is currently involved in a similar process: posting his "story" on the internet in preparation for a high school reunion.
"I have to tell them something about myself," I agonized. "Do you have any advice?"
"Forget about the 'story', he replied. "There is always something of the whimsical, the exaggeration, the need to expound, to ponder, to explain when one attempts to 'tell their story'...why don't you do something that I like to think I invented? I call it a 'micro-biography.' It will 'break the ice' and reintroduce you to a community of people you were never really properly introduced to in the first place."
"Oh," I said.
So here is my attempt at my micro-biography:
At the present time, I am living with my husband of 14 years (together for 19; a graduate of Performing Arts HS, class of '74) in a beach house in Flagler Beach, Florida. As I write this, the growling motors of several motorcycles are pulling out of the driveway just outside my door. This weekend marks the beginning of "Bike Week," an event that this beach community painstakingly prepares for each year. Cyclists from much of the East Coast have begun arriving in droves to Daytona, Ormond, and Flagler to meet, greet, spend money, and raise hell! (I AM exaggerating.)
Last we...Expand for more
ek, at the Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, we were thrilled to see Alice Cooper (61 years young, and still swinging) perform with his "Theatre of Death" tour. It was fabulous! It was amazing to see so many people in attendance of such varying ages ... the very young, the young at heart, the old at heart, you name it -- it was represented.
Oh, yes ... my micro-biography! I would like to note that this old friend of mine is a retired system's analyst; a logical, linear thinker. I may be too right-brained and peculiar to imagine that I could even attempt to write a micro biography, but I am trying.
I am a retired court stenographer. I worked mostly in Workers' Compensation court. I liked it a lot because it was an agency that gave away a lot of money every day -- so at least the folks were going away with something. On the other hand, there were many "stories" (not micro biographies) but involved, detailed accounts of work-related injuries and on-the-job harassment. We had our way-out sometimes amusing, sometimes shocking recounts, but we also took down the 9-11 hearings. I transcribed testimony that I will never, ever forget.
I am interested in holistic healing: Bach Flower Remedies, profound emotional healing, juice therapy, vortex energy, and stand-up comedy.
Enough said. Toodles!
