Diana's Story
Life
2005:After graduation, I went to Inver Hills Junior College and graduated with an AA degree and a Clerical Certificate. I worked some jobs, got married, had children and 14 years after high school, decided that I would follow my dream of becoming a nurse. I attended Red Wing (MN) Technical College and graduated from the LPN program in 1988. I ranked 5th in my class of 28-30. I worked in a local doctors office from 1988-1994 when he closed his office. It was then that I moved to Tomah, WI on advice of my sister who lived there also. In 1996, I began working in the Dialysis Unit at the local hospital. It is an outpatient Renal (Kidney) Dialysis Unit, and a satellite of the Gundersen Lutheran program in LaCrosse, WI. I am a LPN and have been doing this for 10 years now. I really do believe that this is where I belong or my "nursing nitch".
Last September (2005), my mother (due to failing health) moved from Rockport, TX to Tomah and is sharing a house with me. I take care of her and she takes care of me.
My daughter is now 27, lives in Minneapolis/St.Paul are...Expand for more
a and is very happy. My son is now 21 and in his third year of college. I was divorced from my children's father in 1990 after 12 1/2 years of marriage. And have found that I am a very capable person and can do anything I desire to dream.
Still would like to see more of the USA, but will have to wait until demands (mom, kids, pets) decrease to pursue this dream. I really have no desire to travel outside the US, except maybe a cruise.
2006: Daughter is now engaged and son is senior in college. Wow, where did the years go?, because I don't feel any older, but they keep catching up to me in age. I am considering trying to become an dialysis cruise nurse and take that cruise. Would love to see Alaska!!!
2009: Mom passed last year. My daughter got married, my son graduated college in 2007 and has a serious girlfriend. I left dialysis in 2007 and now work as a "Ward Secretary" (Health Unit Coordinator) at the local hospital. Still single, except for my cat, and loving it. Never did get that cruise to Alaska as a working vaction, but am still dreaming of taking one!!!
