Diana's Story

If you have facebook (or if you don't make one) and join the groups "Watkins Memorial '70's & '80's" and "Watkins Memorial Class of 1979" Life I Grew up on a farm on Refugee Rd. Pataskala with one brother, David "Butch" Linke. I have some wonderful memories with friends from Etna Elementary and Watkins Memorial High School. I enjoyed time with friends a great deal while in High School and I haven't forgotten all of my friends even though I have lost touch with so many. I went to OSU newark for only a short time after graduating from Watkins Memorial. I married Dave Fischbach on June 20, 1981, who I began dating while still in high school. Dave went to Reynoldsburg High School and graduated in 1976. After we got married I quit college. We rented an old farm house for a year and then bought a home in Willowbrook East, across from Watkins Memorial. We opened Sub City Pizza in Pataskala in 1980 and later in Johnstown as well. I worked at the Etna Family Medical Center for 17 years and then Doctor's Hospital bought the practice and moved our office in on Refugee Rd. near Eastland, where I worked for a year. Our first daughter, Jessica Lee Fischbach was born April 7th 1987 and our second daughter, Christina Marie Fischbach was born April 18, 1989. In August of 1997 our family took a vacation to Michigan to visit my parents at a little cabin in the woods that they had bought. The last day of the vacation my father took us out on a pontoon boat on Torch Lake and we were in awe during the entire day. The only other place where I have seen water so crystal clear and turquoise in color is in the Florida Keys. That day we fell in love with Michigan. We went back home and took a good look around. Pataskala was growing rapidly - You know the story - green farm fields were being replaced by housing developements, the schools were getting more & more over-crowded, the crime rates were growing, In the town where it seemed ...Expand for more
like you used to know everyone, the population was exploding and that small town feeling just wasn't the same. In November 1997 we took our Thanksgiving vacation and went searching for a little vacation place of our own. What we found was a little piece of paradise on a river boatable to the most beautiful lake in the world,in a little town called Bellaire, Michigan. We decided to jump in head first and put an offer on what was actually more than just a vacation get-a-way. We talked about it and made a decision to "go for it". We figured if we were fortunate enough to find employment in the area we would move up full time and if we didn't - the price of waterfront property was only going up and we could always sell for a profit. I applied for a job with the State of Michigan, took a civil service test and was fortunate enough to obtain a job in Bellaire. Dave opened his own business in Bellaire - Dave's Collision and Car Repair and later added Fish's towing, where he has 3 fulltime employees who do a mix of mechanical, body work and towing. Bellaire is the county seat, and the county building, where I work, is only 2 blocks from our home. Although we are just 2 blocks from the center of town, our home is very secluded on two acres and it feels like you are in the country. We are a 3 mile drive to Torch Lake, an hour boat ride via the lower chain of Lakes to Torch Lake and a half hour drive to lake Michigan. It is a 45 minute drive to the closest city but the serenity of this place makes it worth it. We are about 100 miles S. of the Mackinaw Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world which connects Michigan's upper peninsula to the lower peninsula. I am so thankful that my parents and grandmother had the opportunity to wittness God's beauty in abundance in the Northern Michigan paradise we now call home. If you are a long lost friend or aquaintance, I would love to hear about what you've been doing :)
