Diane's Story
Life
7/2007
Graduated Waynesburg College in 1988, married Derek Brown, of Bethel Park in 1989. Immediately moved to Bahrain (Middle East) where I began working at the American Embassy and as an Art Teacher at a local school. After being evacuated because of the Gulf War, we took orders to Naples, Italy for 3 years. Had an incredible time, adopted a puppy, and decided it was time to come back to the U.S. Ended up in Connecticut for 3 years, grew tired of New England winters, and chose to spend the next 6 years in Texas. We had our 2 sons there, MacKenzie 7 1/2, and Anderson 4 1/2, and adopted another puppy. Took orders to spend the next 3 years in Guam. Well, we just returned to the USA and will be completing our 21 year military adventure in Tennessee.
Workplace
After graduating college I began work as an Interior Decorator. A year later I got married, moved overseas and took a position with the American Embassy in Bahrain as a Courier Escort. I gave that post up after about 6 months when I was offered a teaching job at the Ibn Khuldo...Expand for more
on National School teaching Art KG-4th grade. Unfortunately I was evacuated because of the Gulf War and sent back to the U.S. We chose Italy as our next stop and I began teaching there at a Montessori School. Decided the commute was just too much and started my own small business at the NATO Base nearby. Retail Management became my next job of choice when we moved to Connecticut. Great discount, bad hours! Transferred with the company when we moved to Texas and finished off 5 years with The Limited! I then took a position with Manpower Staffing as a Staffing Specialist to round out our last 4 years in Texas. I volunteered as the Ombudsman for the USS Frank Cable AS-40 for almost 2 years when we moved to Guam, decided it was time to get back into the workforce before we moved again, so I took a job working for the Special Education department of the DODEA school. Well! We have finally made it back to the USA one final time where I now work for the US Navy! I guess it was about time, considering. Oh, and in my spare time, I design jewelry.
