Diane's Story
Who am I? I'm a mom. That's the best thing around with two independent, curious daughters ages 13 and 15. I hope old friends remember me as romantic and poetic. Also all the great clothes I used to wear when I was young and carefree. The flip side of being a mom so late in life has been just hoping I have all the important pieces of clothing on at any given time!
Story-wise I've been a pretty free spirit until the last five years when the economy finally reminded me of the importance of money which I have managed to pretty much not worry about all these years.
Mostly, I've focused on seeing the world. I didn't plan to marry but finally said "I do" in 1994 to a very kind, Quaker man who worked on the Aleutian Islands off Alaska when we first met. (I lived in Homer, AK where I hosted "Sense of Place" with Diane Ford on the local public radio station. It was great fun.)
I suppose the major focus of my life has been amazing motherhood, outrageous travel experiences, totally dedicated to...Expand for more
asking people to listen to the voices (and experience) of military veterans, publishing a couple of books (working on a novel now) and being an art gallery owner (artist-made cremation urns.
In 2005, at the ripe old age of 53, I finally finished my M.A. at NYU. (I earned my B.A. there in 1983, followed by two years of grad school -- and then took off to see the world without finishing up my thesis. In 2003, I was lucky enough to find a mentor at NYU who agreed to advocate for me to finish up that 18-year old thesis. They even let me do it from Wisconsin where I live with my family.)
All this doesn't actually say who I am or where I've been, I think it's hard to quantify your life or mine this way, but I would be very interested in hearing about you, my dear 1970 classmates, and how life has been for you, too.
I started to list the people I remember most but I'm afraid I'll leave too many people out so I'll leave that open.
A 40th reunion? Why not. Feel free to write. Cheers, Diane
