Diane's Story

Let me try to make a long story short! I ended up going to Nursing school--because my Dad had been layed off from the Steel, and I didn't have $ for 4 years of college. My plan was to then work for a year and then return to college while working part time (and moving to Florida to be near the beach). I met my husband a few months before graduation, so ended up working for that year and getting married, and then keeping working. Finally decided to return to school, and became pregnant. Lost that baby and didn't return to school again. Lost another but kept trying. Had my golden girl--Sara Elizabeth-in 1987. She graduated from Freedom in 2005, and from Villanova (two degrees- accountancy and marketing) in 2009, is now working and living in Philly as an auditor at Deloitte. She just passed her CPA exam a few months ago. She was a cheerleader throughout high school and college becoming Captain her senior years. Last year she cheered on Villanova basketball in the Final Four! In 1990 my son, Jonathan Vastine was born. He graduated Freedom in 2009, and is now attending Lehigh majoring in Engineering and Theater. He is interested in acting, but is also thinking he would like to design sets on Broadway, unless he gets his big break! He was "The Wizard" in the "wizard of Oz" at FHS last year. When his friends are over they are usually playing video games, card games, charad...Expand for more
es or watching plays on dvd. He's my favorite boy! As you can tell, my children have been the joy of my life. I have spent so much time watching sporting events where Sara was cheering and plays that Jon was acting in. My husband, Tom is absolutely the best. I can't concieve of my life without him. We have been married for 27 years (since 1982), have always lived in Bethlehem..well actually Beth. Township now. We are just the average american family..two kids, a dog (a mutt mixed Lab and golden retriever) named Mattie, a rabbit (Smore) who must be the longest lived pet bunny ever!, living in a four bedroom colonial with a small backyard ornamental pond with some fish and frogs. Tom is the Regional Manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. He grew up in Berwick, Pa. and graduated from Lebanon Valley College. He is a CPA. I worked as an RN for years mostly in Labor and Delivery, which was challenging and rewarding. Unfortunately, I injured my back (after 25 years of lifting heavy patients) in 2005, attempted to work for 2 more years, and have been disabled since 2007. I am still struggling with chronic back pain and all that entails plus with the Worker's Compensation system. Sadly, I spend most of my time on my family room sofa. Anyway, I am thankful for my family who give me the motivation to keep going. I'd love to hear from people, so drop me a line!
