Diane's Story

Diane’s education is in mechanical engineering (UC Berkeley) and managing the development of technical documentation (UC Santa Cruz). She began her technical writing career in the U.S. Navy, where she served as a P3 aircrew member and occasional pilot for 4 years, and as a senior aircrew instructor at Moffett Field for another 4 years, where she developed and taught courses to new aircrews on the ground and in the air. Since leaving the Navy, Diane has worked for several large companies (HP, Hitachi, Google, Cisco, and others,) as well as several startups. She has worn many hats, including management of technical publications, training, and technical support, and has significant experience in localization, usability, hardware design, and software development. Diane has extensive experience in a wide range of technologiesand helped invent things that have made a significant impact to the world including the CPU, ultrasound, CT-scanners, and 3D graphics for the PC and smart phones. d nine children (including seven stepkids) and has 10 grandchildren. With her family, Diane enjoys skiing, water-skiing, camping, and biking. She remodeled her kitchen and bathrooms by herself, built a pool and deck, and built her own computer and network at home. Diane volunteers her time as a Lt. in the Civil Air Patrol (part of the US Air Force), teaching cadets flying and aerospace topics. She is also a volunteer project manager at Rebuilding Together, Silicon Valley, where she has led several teams of volunteers to repair and rebuild homes owned by elderly and/or disabled people who are not able to fix things and cannot afford to have someone do it for them. Diane is also an experienced pilot and flies a beautiful Cessna 182 Skylane almost every weekend, as well as WWII fighters and aerobatic biplanes. She is a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association that sponsors the Young Eagles program, where Diane takes several kids 8-18 every month on demonstration rides, introducing them to flying and aviation.

This is what I flew when I was in the Navy.  50 tons, drives like a semi truck. Big fuel tanks, 14 hour flights every three days.
