Diane's Story
I am so glad that I stayed here. I have met so many many old friends and new ones in just this year 2010. Our class reunion is in Aug this year and I am hoping to see many friends there.
Does anyone remember playing ball in the big field on 22nd ave. How about tree climbing? I seemed to always be up a tree...lol. Remember the Fairview playground ? And doing crafts with the summer teens who brought all the stuff?
My first job was at Gables Dept Store, where I got paid to be a salesgirl. What I remember most about it is when I was Santa's helper and felt sorry that only the kids whose Moms paid got gifts from Santa. I remember sitting on Santa's lap myself...lol. Never did find who Santa really was. Had to be old though....lol.
In 10 years, I hope to be ALIVE. I'm going to get there by clean living !!!.
I share my home with my 90 year old Mom and Dixie my fur baby chocolate Lab mix. DIXIE DOG looks like a wolf...lol. but so sweet.......maybe that's why I like Jacob in the Twightlight series. I read all the books and see the movies with my grandkids to sort of keep in touch with their interests. Frankly I like the series. If you don't...well bite me ! Now you knew I was going to say that didn't you ?
Insantity is heretitary...you can get it from your KIDS ! Just KIDDING...remember be nice to your kids....they'll pick your nursing home ! But I WON"T GO>>>>HEE HEE HEE...NEVER !!!!
I always wanted to be a wife and mother when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right about the MOTHER part ..
Any awards I have gotten have been in art contests in Photography, and doll making or basically any art creativity project.
I will never forget the pure joy all of us neighborhood kids got from just playing outside everyday in the fresh air. I loved going as high as I could "pump" on the long swings at the playground. Those swings had long chains and hard red painted wooden seats. I can still feel the air going through my hair. I just did that again this summer with my youngest grandkids. I remember jumping off the swings as far out as we could, then drawing a line in the dirt and trying to go further next time. I didn't show that to my grandkids....can you say..TRACTION ? I remember shooting marbles (yes, I DO still have my marbles) and flipping tradin...Expand for more
g cards. I was good at that. When the street lights came on we had to be in front of our houses and we usually were playing flashlight hide & seek or catching lightening bugs in glass jars. In daylight we would catch bees in jars but I can't remember why the heck we did that.. I remember games like kick the can, King of the mountain, statue, freeze tag, four squares, jumping rope for hours, walking on stilts that my Dad made for me. Riding my scooter and of course my bike, I still have my bike but it needs new tires. Roller skating on the sidewalks with clip on skates that we had to tighten onto our saddle oxfords with a skate key. My key was kept on a long shoelace around my neck...lol. I still have those skates ! I remember getting my first Wranger Jeans and how shocked we were when the cost rose to $2.50 a pair ! And I can't forget my wonderful P.F. Flyers...heck they made me run faster and jump higher just like the commercials promised. Grandma was sure they would ruin my feet. I had a very happy childhood and a wonderful family and good friends. I hope my kids and grandkids have good childhood memories too. I remember all the kids on the block but haven't been able to find most. I did just find Jeff Evans who is coming to our class reunion this Aug 2010. But there was Becky Schulman, Jeanie Campbell, All the Nuse kids who lived next door, I have seen them recently. And Marty Jo Dumm who did marry a classmate of mine but I don't remember who...lol. Dick Brown used to live beside me and I haven't gotten in touch with him. Wonder if he will be coming to the reunion? Laurie Jo Burd I do get to see, Karen Wertz died some years ago as did Darlene Reimer but I see Becky Vaughn at the bank aften. But there were so many Fairview kids that I have no idea where they are. One was like a little sister to me, Lynne Dempsey, I often wonder where she went. I saw her when my twin dauhters were born 41 years ago ! Yipes my kids are catching up with me.
I have just shared some of my childhood memories but One little thing just came to mind. I went to the Fairview Methodist Church and we had Vacation Bible School every Summer. Everytime I eat Graham Crackers and Chocolate Milk my mind flashes back to Bible school. Did anyone here go that Bible school ? Now I'll have to go buy some crackers and chocolate milk...lol.
