Diane's Story

Life Hi, It's Diane from good ol' Hoover. I posted a photo of myself from last year while I was prego with my first born (and only at this point) daughter, Chloe. I need to find that damn yearbook so I can put up my old photo from senior year with my little new wave/punk style. Oh God, I think I was wearing a vintage smoking jacket, tons of make up and some makeshift broche. I thought I looked hot. Poor baby, huh? I look more like a girl now. Not like a drag queen in combat boots anymore. I earned my cosmetology license while we were in high school, took some semesters of college, then worked for a couple of salons. I always wanted to travel so a friend and I sold everything and took off to Europe on one-way tickets. I had a handful of friends in various countries that we went about visiting. My girlfriend ended up marrying our buddy in Germany. I traveled around to Spain, France, England, etc., did some hair and nanny work to support myself then came back to the States for a job offer I couldn't refuse. Wow, it was the most exciting and scary thing I had done in my life up to that point. Worked for a few years then went back to school to study psych and kinesiology at USC. You know, trying to learn how to keep my head straight and lose some weight. Didn't finish though. Needed to make some money so started working and haven't looked back. Tried to move out of LA a few of times. Almost to Hawaii, New York, the Midwest, Europe for a while, etc. Always came back and here I still am. I had just gotten sick of all the people, ...Expand for more
smog, traffic, and impersonal lifestyle. I'm more at peace with it now. Probably just more comfortable in my skin. Where ever you go there YOU are - cliche but so true. Took the long way round for me to learn that one. I'm a little slow but I eventually catch on. I've continued to travel whenever I can. I still love the water (I was on the swim team at Hoover for a stint) and have been to a lot of islands to snorkel. Just went to China for the first time last year then to London and Cancun again. Can't wait to try Costa Rica! Finally took the big steps into adulthood and got married, had a beautiful, gorgeous, fantastic, smart, funny little baby girl, and bought a house with my hubby. All only in the last year and a half. Better late than never, right? Oh so domesticated these days. Ran around the world like a feral animal till then. Had me a great time, met interesting people, learned a thing or two. But now really enjoying my little family. Have a job in Malibu that I dig for the past 5 years. Just moved from Santa Monica where I lived for the past 13 years to our house in Lake Balboa (just a nice name they gave to a sweet spot between Encino and Van Nuys). Ooohwee couldn't afford but a crappy old condo in Santa Monica. Have you seen the real estate prices over there? Well, that's the short abridged version of my life so far. Hope there is a reunion next year. Can't wait to see all your bald heads and fat asses. No, not us. We're all still hot, right? Just dim the lights a bit. We still got it! Cheers, Diane
