Diane's Story
I traveled the country with my service man husband--New York City, Groton, Connecticut, San Franscisco, California, Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii, Cleveland, Ohio and then finally Ypsilanti, Michigan. I went to the community college and eventually obtained an Associate Degree in nursing. I have been working for the same hospital since 1981 and would like to work another 4 years for a total of 30 years. 2 years ago I moved to Chelsea, Michigan to be closer to my oldest daughter, her husband and my 2 grandchildren. I have loved being a nurse. I love being a grandmother even more. Because my last name is Smith, my daughter thinks I should be called "Granny" and I am. I love that, too!
I am single--divorced since 1983. I have multiple cats and an Amazo...Expand for more
n parrot. I am working on becoming a vegan; just joined the senior center and am enjoying meeting new people. I am currently taking a class in stained glass. It is much harder than I expected, especially since my right wrist is still recovering from being broken December 23.
Life is good! I have very few strands of grey in my hair so I don't have to color it. That makes me feel very young which is good since I work with many younger nurses and techs. I need to feel good to pull down two 12 hour shifts every weekend. I work on the oncology unit and deal with a lot of issues related to a diagnosis of a terminal illness, death and dying. I had lymphoma myself in 1985 so I can relate to my patients with a deeper understanding of what it's all about.
