Diane's Story
I dropped out of the JC after about 1-1/2 semesters and went to work in 1962 at the City of Santa Rosa Planning Dept. Got married in Oct. of 1963 and moved to Mtn. View. We bought our first house in Los Altos in 1965, then moved to Greenbrae in 1973, and had our first daughter there in 1974. Moved back to Santa Rosa in 1975 and bought the house Iâm still living in. We had our second daughter in 1979. In 1991, I got divorced, then refinanced and bought the house for myself and the girls. They finished school, went to college and have moved on in life.
Iâm still here and still working full-time. Through the years, Iâve worked in bookkeeping, computer hardware & software configurations, some programming, teaching computer classes, computerized Braille translation, system administration and office management.

Rincon Valleyâin the house the folks bought in 1961âand will be 90 next January. Dad passed on about 25 years ago. Four of my 5 siblings still live in Sonoma Countyâthe youngest brother lives in Plumas County, near Lake Almanor. We are all still very close and love getting together at Momâs for family holiday and birthday celebrations. All of the first and second cousins have grown up together and many are almost like siblings.
I am healthy and feel good most of the timeâI just have a lot less energy than I used to! But I feel blessed with the children, family and friends that I have. Now Iâm waiting for grandchildren. And there is hope! My youngest daughter has found her perfect mate and they are getting married next summer. They both want a family and know that they have a willing babysitterâalthough, not on a daily basis!
