Dianne's Story

Life One of Gladstone's "Future Teacher's", I now teach grade 10 and 11 Social Studies at CABE, an alternate school in Coquitlam. I have been there for 5 years and love it. It's a very challenging job, as the students are not regular high school kids, but working with them has been the most rewarding experience of my teaching career. My days are never boring or routine, and I have the opportunity to be wild and crazy at times. I don't plan on retiring any time soon. I live in South Surrey - 2 of my sons are still living at home. My youngest is planning on going to Holland in the fall to try out as a keeper for a professional soccer club. All my kids (4) are sports minded, and have played competetively in various sports and while they were active, I volunteered in the organizations. None of the kids are married yet, and no gradchildren. Thinking about what I have done since high school, it doesn't seem to be very exciting or unusual. I am still married to the same man (hard to believe, but that's now going on 35 years): raised 4 children, 3 boys and a girl;worked in a variety of school situations (private and public, all girls, elementary and high school) teaching mainly PE and Social Studies. I am taking a semestar leave and plan on doing some "adventure" travelling. One of my goals when I graduated was to travel...Expand for more
and "see the wonders of the world". I guess it's about time I started! I need an exciting, physical experience in a different culture. I've done "the beach" in Hawaii, Mexico and Cuba (my husband and kids loved it)and that definitely has its place, but I need a little of the reality of the world as well. A little danger as well, just to spice things up! I am contemplating going to Burma and northern India in November. My husband,(David)is a business man, and with his partner they run a prefabricated building construction company - BRITCO. Fortunately, the company has been successful, and this has allowed us to have a comfotable lifestyle (God knows I don't make much as a teacher!). We have recently purchased a cottage on the lake in Summerland (outside of Penticton)and are renovating it. What a slow process that is! In the far future, we intend to divide our time between there and South Surrey. I enjoy cross country and downhill skiing, hiking, and gardening in my spare time, what there is of it! I often wonder what my high school friends are doing and what wonders they have accomplished. I went to the 20th reunion and found it to be a fun and enlightening experince, I'd love to reconnect before people disappear again. Drop me a note, it would be great to hear from you.
