Dick's Story

Life would have graduated in '74, but went to work instead. Got married at 18 (just barely!) to Sandra Smith from Issaquah. Had two girls, moved around western Wa a lot, returning to N.Bend once or twice. Sandy died in '81, got married again in '84, had a son, now divorced and living in a 2010 Peterbuilt 386, traveling the US, meeting lots of people, having fun and, uh, oh yeah, sort of making a living. Life is good, I kind of like it. Kind of hard on relationships though, my last g/f broke up with me when I was 120 miles from home. Of course, it might have had something to do with the fact I'd been gone 3 months, and couldn't really tell her if I was coming home for sure or not. Oh well. So, ladies of my youth, when I DO get back, (maybe June) I could use a dinner companion when I take my sister and her husband out. That is, if any of you are still young at heart, and like to have fun instead of comparing aches, pains, disfunctional moments and the state of your ... whatever. LIFE is for the living, and I have met too many of my generation who are more worried about dying than living, which I really can't understand, because all of us should only be 50 something going on 20 something. Life is for living, laughing, and loving. Remember that. I said so. I kind of wrote a couple songs, and yes I have sung them in public. I really did!!!!! I was sober too! I was shocked and amazed at the reaction I got. Younger people trie...Expand for more
d to buy me beer, (I don't drink it anymore.) Older people tried to my me whiskey. (I don't drink that anymore either.) The stray cat in the alley tried to get in my car. I love singing to drunk people, they love my stuff! I still haven't gotten around to learning how to play a guitar really, but I can make some pretty sounds. My current guitar is a very old Lyle acoustic that makes me sound WAAAAY better than I really am, so I call her "Lady" and keep her with me. Yes, she is in my truck with me. I have played several people right to sleep, but I am not sure if that's a good thing or not. I have had a few people call me and ask me to play something for them so they could sleep. Is that good? I pretend it is. Oh yeah, I don't actually play rock. A producer I met once told me it was a kind of jazz, country thing, and he had no idea how to market it. I'll stick with my truck. I left my truck and came home in January, 2012. Seems the moss content in my blood got too low. Or maybe I just started missing the rain. I know one night down south, I was walking across the parking lot at the truck stop I was spending the night in, and it began to rain. I guess some of the other drivers there thought I was nuts, because I raised my face to the rain, threw my arms out, leaned back so it was hitting me squarely in the face, and began to laugh. It felt good, and I realized I missed Washington a lot. So here I am up in Kenmore, back to stay.
